The recent publication of data from the Active Lives: Children and Young People survey confirms that active children are happier: the most active children report a mean happiness score of 7.5 (out of 10), compared to 6.8 for those who are less active. Benefits include building confidence, managing anxiety and depression, and increasing self-esteem, cognitive skills and improving learning and attainment.</p><p> </p><p>In December last year the Department of Health and Social Care and Department for Education published Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision: a green paper, which highlighted how important physical activity is for good mental health and wellbeing. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/01/2019 answer text <p>On 10th January 2019, Government announced a new funding commitment from bookmakers worth an estimated £3m this year to ensure the welfare of greyhounds is protected and improved. We expect thousands of racing greyhounds are to be better cared for as a result of this new deal. The commitment is set to increase the total amount of funding from bookmakers to the British Greyhound Racing Fund to an estimated £10m this year.</p><p>The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB), responsible for the governance, regulation and management of the sport of licensed greyhound racing in England, Scotland and Wales, has committed to improve licensing and inspection standards on and off track. I look forward to meeting with them and the Greyhound Forum in the coming weeks to discuss this work further. A full audit of trainers’ residential kennels is underway to prioritise upgrades and GBGB has allocated £400,000 specifically for kennel upgrades in 2019. A further £160,000 has been allocated to support tracks which do not currently have air-conditioning in their kennel areas.</p><p>This commitment will further support greyhounds both before and after racing by helping to fund the GBGBs Injury Recovery Scheme and providing £1.4m to the The Greyhound Trust to help find homes for retired greyhounds, ensuring where possible they go on to enjoy a full and active life in retirement.</p> answering member constituency Eastleigh answering member printed Mims Davies question first answered 29/01/2019 17:20:38 answering member 4513 label Biography information for Mims Davies

The UK has an equivalent piece of legislation, the Bribery Act 2010, which has a specific section relating to the bribery of foreign public officials by UK firms.</p><p> </p><p>Bribery of foreign officials by US firms is a crime, just as it is in the UK. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/11/2018 answer text <p>Government’s Sporting Future strategy set out how important it is for all children to have a good experience of sport and physical activity while they are young.</p><p> </p><p>Sport England supports children and young people in England by ensuring there is a good sports and activity offer before and after the school day. Sport England has committed up to £194 million of investment into children and young people over the next four years, which includes the Families Fund: up to £40 million invested in projects that offer new opportunities for families with children to be active together. Sport England will also provide specialist training to at least two teachers in every secondary school in England by 2020, and will invest £28m into Satellite Clubs between 2017-2021.</p><p> </p><p>DCMS are working closely with the Department for Education and the Department of Health and Social Care on a new School Sport and Activity Action plan, which will be published in Spring 2019. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/11/2018 answer text <p>According to the Health Survey for England, in 2015 22% of children (23% of boys and 20% of girls) aged 5-15 met the physical activity guidelines of being at least moderately active for at least 60 minutes every day. This is higher than in 2012, when 21% of boys and 16% of girls met the guidelines. However this excludes school-based activities and active travel. Further information can be found here: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-physical-activity-guidelines" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-physical-activity-guidelines</a>.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the government’s Sporting Future strategy, Sport England’s remit was extended to cover children from age 5+. Government departments including DCMS, DfE and DHSC have worked with Sport England to develop the new Active Lives: Children and Young People survey. This survey launched in schools in September 2017 and will measure in much more detail how children and young people engage in sport and physical activity, and how many are meeting the Chief Medical Officer's guidelines, both in and out of school.
