star this property answer text <p>The Home Office has engaged closely with policing over a number of years to support the transformation of policing and continues to do so. This takes place through a wide range of fora and engagements including the Police Reform and Transformation Board and the digital roundtables convened by the Minister of Policing and Fire in January and June 2018 to support transformation in the digital space.</p><p>In May, The Minister for Policing &amp; the Fire Service wrote to police leaders setting out our commitment to work with the police ahead of the Spending Review. We have since launched a comprehensive programme of work covering a range of issues including efficiency, productivity and better use of digital technology.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Home Office is working closely with strategic operational policing leads on policing and security cooperation between the UK and the EU in the context of EU exit.</p><p>Our preferred scenario is a new legally binding agreement between the UK and the EU on internal security.</p><p>In a no deal scenario, however, as a responsible Government, we are working with a range of operational partners, including the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC).</p><p>The Home Office has not issued a technical notice in this area. The focus of technical notices is to help businesses and citizens to prepare for EU exit. We are working directly with the NPCC and under “Operation Safety Net”, the NPCC are establishing a new national unit, called the International Crime Co-ordination Centre. Part of the function of this new unit will be to issue technical advice and guidance to forces.</p><p>Relevant policing leads are also providing updates and briefing to Police and Crime Commissioners about the work of the new unit.</p>

That is why we put local people in charge by introducing directly elected and accountable Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs).</p><p>PCCs are responsible for determining their force’s budget and policing precept, as well as obtaining the views of local people on police and crime objectives for their area through a police and crime plan.</p><p>Decisions on the composition and deployment of officers and staff are an operational decision for Chief Constables.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We reviewed the changing and increasingly complex demands on the police. We are proposing a funding settlement that will provide total funding of up to £14 billion for 2019-20 in England and Wales, an increase of up to £970m compared to 2018/19, including precept, pensions funding and national investment. Funding for the police in Northern Ireland is a devolved matter.</p><p><br>It is for Chief Constables in conjunction with their Police and Crime Commis-sioners as part of their forward planning to determine the amount of police officers they will require to help them deal with any emerging pressures.</p><p><br>The Government is already supporting the police sector to respond to pres-sures arising from the United Kingdom leaving the European Union. We have provided £2.4 million to the National Chiefs’ Police Council and have also paid £845k to Kent Police for their European Union Exit planning.</p><p><br>We are engaging closely with the police sector in relation to planning and funding pressures in relation to the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Crime Survey for England and Wales shows crime has reduced by more than a third since 2010, and has remained broadly stable over recent months. However, we recognise the changing and increasing demand on the police, particularly in areas of low-volume high-harm crime like serious violence. We responded by increasing police funding by £460 million in 2018/19, including £280 million from council tax precept. The police workforce statistics released on 24 January show the first year on year increase in police officer numbers in a decade, indicating that Police and Crime Commissioners have been able to protect the front line.</p><p>For 2019/20, we have proposed a settlement that will see overall funding for the policing system increase by up to £970 million, including council tax precept. Many PCCs are consulting on plans to use this flexibility for significant police officer recruitment.</p> more like this
