The Home Office regularly reviews the level of the cash allowance to ensure that it is sufficient to cover their essential living needs.

The current allowance of £36.95 per week for each person in a household has been in place since 6 April 2015 and was set following a review that took place earlier that year. There was a further review in 2016 and a report of the outcome was published in March 2017: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/report-on-review-of-cash-allowance-paid-to-asylum-seekers

The report sets out the methodology used in the annual review to assess the adequacy of the allowance, which has been accepted by the courts.

A further review is currently ongoing.
