star this property answer text <p>The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has improved its compliance and reporting processes, resulting in the recent suspension of six countries for non-compliance and a further six countries placed on its watch-list. Last week, WADA's Foundation Board increased its scope to conduct internal investigations and strengthen its whistleblowing process. WADA President Craig Reedie's statement that values-based education is the best weapon for clean sport is a view shared by UK Anti-Doping and implemented through its successful 100% Me education programme.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The re-enforcement of the ban on the All-Russia Athletic Federation to international competition by the International Association of Athletics Federations demonstrates the need for athletes to compete in a clean sport environment.</p><p> </p><p>This was underlined further by the International Olympic Committee announcement that athletes from Russia, Spain and Kenya, countries that are currently non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, that wish to participate in Rio will be subject to a pre-Games testing programme before being admitted to the Games.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>I am grateful for Lord Moynihan's valuable contributions to that debate in the House.</p><p>The Minister for Sport has made it clear that a new approach to sport is needed. The Government published a consultation paper on a new sport strategy in early August and the responses received are being considered. The Government will publish its new strategy for sport in due course, the first such strategy for 13 years.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Advertising in the UK is controlled through a system of co-regulation and self-regulation, enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The Government supports the ASA's aim to take action against all misleading, harmful or offensive advertising and ensure compliance across all sectors. ASA has a range of sanctions it can take against non-compliant advertisers, including Ad Alerts to the media, withdrawal of trading privileges, mandatory pre-vetting and ultimately referral to Trading Standards. There are no current plans to strengthen these sanctions, but they are kept under review.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Government is determined to tackle physical inactivity. Around one in two women and a third of men in England may be damaging their health through a lack of physical activity. Ministers across government continue to work together to identify opportunities to get people active in a range of ways including active travel, health initiatives, planning and sport.</p><p> </p><p>In December 2015 Government published ‘Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation’ - the first comprehensive government strategy for sport for 13 years – it sets out a new vision for a successful and active sporting nation. It has a strong focus on reaching inactive people and helping them to get moving in ways that suit them.</p><p> </p><p>Sport England's new strategy ‘Towards an Active Nation’, published on 19 May, states that tackling inactivity is a major priority for the organisation, it is tripling its current investment to over £250 million over 4 years, making it the largest single national investor in tackling inactivity.</p>
