It is positive to see that in January to March 2024 the UK produced 222,371 cars, 1.1% more than the same period in 2023.</p><p> </p><p>The automotive sector directly supports 152,000 jobs and contributes £19.4 billion in gross value added to our economy (from a turnover of £85 billion). 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/02/2023 answer text <p>The Government is determined to ensure the UK continues to be a highly attractive location for automotive investment and manufacturing.</p><p> </p><p>In the last couple of years alone, we have seen Nissan and Envision invest £1 billion to create an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub in Sunderland, a £2.5 billion investment by Bentley in Crewe, and £380 million by Ford to make Halewood their first European EV components site.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to work through the Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF) to develop an internationally competitive electric vehicle supply chain. BEIS Ministers and officials regularly engage with the automotive industry, including bilaterals with manufacturers, interactions via trade associations, and through the Department’s participation in the Automotive Council.</p><p> </p><p>Government has understood BMW’s warning that no deal would be a danger to MINI production in the UK. We have also heard from Toyota the impact that a no deal scenario would have on its business.</p><p> </p><p>Leaving the EU with a deal that supports the future of British industry remains the government’s top priority. As set out in the Political Declaration, the UK and the EU have agreed on a free trade area for goods, including automotive. Since it was announced in July 2013, APC has awarded 44 collaborative R&amp;D projects worth £770 million backed with £368 million from Government.
