Friends, the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer, have made clear, the government will do whatever it takes to support people affected by COVID-19.</p><p>During this period, we are asking schools to support children who are eligible for and claiming benefits-related free school meals, by providing meals or food parcels through their existing food providers wherever possible. We know that many schools are successfully delivering food parcels or arranging food collections for eligible children, and we encourage this approach where it is possible. However, we recognise that providing meals and food parcels is not a practicable option for all schools. That is why on 31 March we launched a national voucher scheme as an alternative option, with costs covered by the Department for Education.</p><p>Through the national voucher scheme, schools and families could initially access e-gift cards for Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Waitrose and Marks &amp; Spencer. On Monday 27 April, we added Aldi to this list and on Wednesday 29 April, we added McColl’s. We recognise that it may not be convenient or possible for some families to visit one of these supermarkets and we have been working with a range of retailers to see if they can be added to this list. This would involve them having the right infrastructure to deliver e-gift cards across all their stores.</p><p>If schools wish to provide vouchers through a supermarket that is not part of our national scheme, they can make their own voucher arrangements locally. Our guidance for schools sets out that they can be reimbursed for costs incurred where the national voucher scheme is not suitable for their families, and this can include alternative voucher arrangements with supermarkets that are not part of the national voucher scheme.</p><p>In terms of the financial arrangements with our supplier, Edenred, we can confirm that we are only paying for the face value of goods delivered – in this case, vouchers.</p><p>Voucher codes are being processed through the national scheme and many thousands of families are redeeming them. As of Friday 22 May, Edenred reported that more than £101.5 million worth of voucher codes have been redeemed into supermarket e-gift cards by schools and families. As of Tuesday 12 May, Edenred reported that 17,000 schools had placed an order. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/12/2017 answer text <p>All existing Disability Living Allowance claimants who were aged 16 to 64 on 8 April 2013, or who reach age 16 thereafter, are being invited to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP). With the exception of those claiming under the special provisions for people who are terminally ill, all claims to PIP are treated in the same way and are subject to an assessment of needs to determine entitlement and the correct rate to pay benefit.</p><p> </p><p>Most people will be asked to attend a face-to-face consultation with a trained independent assessor. However, we recognise that attending a face-to-face assessment can be a stressful experience for some people, which is why we do not carry out face-to-face consultations where there is enough existing evidence to determine benefit entitlement. Furthermore, where a face-to-face consultation is required, that can take place in a claimant’s home if they are unable to travel to an assessment centre. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/01/2015 answer text <p>Denying the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) access to funds and other resources is a key part of our strategy to defeat ISIL. The UK has been at the forefront of efforts to rally wider international support against ISIL, including at the September North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Summit and at the UN. Under our Presidency in August, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2170 to restrict ISIL’s financial, trade and recruitment network, including through the sale of oil and antiquities. To build on this, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), co-hosted, with US Secretary of State John Kerry, a meeting of 21 European and Middle East coalition countries in London on 22 January. The meeting reviewed our efforts to degrade and defeat ISIL, not just through military force but by addressing the underlying factors such as financing. As such, the information cannot be provided within the timeframe without incurring disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p><p>In July 2022 HMRC came under a significant attack from VAT registration fraudsters and we saw the number of registrations being sent to HMRC increase to unprecedented levels.</p><p> </p><p>To deal with this issue a number of measures were urgently put in place to protect genuine customers and to stop the increase in fraudulent activity. These measures entailed additional security checks that meant that some genuine customers were caught in the new processes to ensure the authenticity of the registration being made. HMRC does understand the frustrations from agents and businesses, and are working to ensure all genuine registrations are processed as quickly as possible.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC aims to turnaround most VAT registrations within 40 working days and is currently meeting that service level agreement, although some cases do take longer due to additional compliance checks or complexity.</p><p> </p><p>Due to the high numbers of new registrations being submitted to HMRC during the summer, HMRC did not always meet the service standard over that time period.</p> answering member printed Baroness Penn question first answered 04/01/2023 12:21:43 answering member 4726 label Biography information for Baroness Penn
