It carries out regular audits and inspection of all UK operators and approved maintenance organisations to ensure they comply with all safety requirements.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Civil Aviation Authority has worked with British Airways to ensure that the airline has addressed the issues identified by the investigation in to the recent incident at Heathrow Airport. star this property answer text <p>Border Force has recently negotiated an agreement with Public Health England (PHE) for use of their accommodation at Terminals 3, 4 and 5 as temporary holding room space. PHE accommodation at T3 and T5 will be shared with Detention Operations, while the accommodation at T4 will be entirely vacated. Heathrow Airport Limited, in conjunction with Detention Operations and Border Force, is working with their contractor to finalise the specifications for each temporary holding room.</p><p>Discussions are now taking place to determine the phasing of this work and associated timescales.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p /> <p>The Port Medical Inspector is no longer using the space adjacent to the detention facilities at Heathrow Terminal 4. A Port Medical Inspector is available at Terminal 3 to undertake any necessary on entry referral screening.Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL) is waiting for formal notice from the Port Medical Inspector that they wish to terminate their lease on the space. There is a 3 month notice period. In the meantime, free access to the area has been given to plan accommodation changes. HAL has now appointed a project manager.There is a meeting scheduled for 31 July between the Home Office and HAL to discuss the project timetable.</p><p /> more like this

The BIP at Heathrow Airport is comprised of three separately managed inspection centres including one that handles imports of live animals. Norbert Dentressangle operates one of two inspection centres that are approved to handle different types of product of animal origin.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Defra has received representations from and on behalf of businesses that currently rely on the inspection centre currently operated by Norbert Dentressangle. Officials have responded informally to understand better these concerns.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>I understand that the operator of the second animal product inspection centre at Heathrow has expressed an interest in providing alternative inspection facilities. Their facility will require some structural and other changes and these will need to be checked by the Animal and Plant Health Agency. Any fundamental change to the existing facility will also need to be approved by the Food and Veterinary Office of the European Commission. This could require an inspection of any new facilities.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>I also understand that the parties involved are also exploring contingency measures that could operate whilst any planning and building work is carried out. The aim is to ensure that there is a continuous Border Inspection capability for all types of product of animal origin at Heathrow.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>I appreciate the importance that the bio-pharmaceutical industry and other importers attach to the maintenance of inspection facilities for animal product at Heathrow Airport. I welcome the discussions that are currently taking place between various interested parties. Defra will continue to follow developments closely and officials will provide any advice needed to assist the possible development the other animal product inspection centre at Heathrow Airport.</p><p> </p>

The Government keeps under review all research carried out on the impacts of aircraft noise on health and sleep disturbance, including any effects on productivity, and would take this into account when considering the costs and benefits of any relevant policy or regulatory proposals.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the last review of night flying restrictions at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports, my Department commissioned the Civil Aviation Authority to undertake a review of literature on these impacts. The CAA published this review in January 2013 (Report ERCD 1208 on Aircraft Noise, Sleep Disturbance and Health Effects) and updated it in June 2014 (Report CAP 1164).</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this
