They will only need to complete three key steps - prove their identity, show that that they live in the UK, and declare any criminal convictions. We have always been clear that we want decisions about the future immigration system to be based on evidence and we are carefully considering the Migration Advisory Committee’s recommendations in its recent report, published 18 September, before setting out our plans.</p><p>We will publish a White Paper which will set out this future system later in the autumn. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/11/2018 answer text <p>Employers already need to carry out right to work checks on EU citizens, as they do with all prospective employees to prevent illegal working. The statutory code of practice and published guidance for employers are clear that EU citizens can evidence their right to work by showing a passport or national identity card, and employers should continue to refer to these documents.</p><p>EU nationals may also use Home Office residence documentation as evidence of their right to work, but they are not currently required to do so. Even in the unlikely event of a no deal situation, this position will not change next March. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/06/2018 answer text <p>Work is well underway to build the EU Exit Settlement Scheme to grant status to the 3.5 million EU citizens and their family members resident in the UK. This will be a new streamlined, user-friendly digital application process which will draw on existing government data and processes to minimise the administrative burden on individuals. In preparation for launch at the end of the year, we are recruiting additional staff to bring existing UKVI European Casework staffing levels to circa 1,500.</p><p>Operational units across the Home Office actively monitor workflows to ensure sufficient resources are in place to meet demand. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/06/2018 answer text <p>The EU Settlement Scheme will be a simple and streamlined application process, drawing on existing government data and processes to minimise the administrative burden on applicants. The application process is being built around a presumption to grant rather than refuse, so we expect the majority of the current 3.4m resident EU citizens who will be eligible to apply, to do so and to be granted status.
