star this property answer text Those granted refugee status or humanitarian protection, including those resettled under our three resettlement schemes, are entitled to work without restriction and have full access to the mainstream benefits system on the same terms as British citizens and other permanent residents in the UK. Asylum seekers are only permitted to work in the UK if their asylum claim has been outstanding for more than 12 months, providing the delay is not of their making. Employment is restricted to jobs on the shortage occupations list. We have no plans to reduce the time asylum seekers have to wait to take up employment. more like this

star this property answer text <p>Work continues with local authorities and International Partners to deliver the Government’s commitment to resettle 20,000 Syrian refugees over the lifetime of this Parliament and we are on track to do this. Progress on resettlement will be indicated in quarterly immigration statistics. The last set of statistics, published on 23 February showed that 5,454 Syrians were resettled to the UK under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement scheme between October 2015 and December 2016.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Where there is a right of appeal from within the UK the time limit to appeal is 14 days. The time limits for appeals are set out in rules made by the Tribunal Procedures Committee a non- departmental public body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. There is no right of appeal against a Removal Order, but if a person claims that their removal would be contrary to the Refugee Convention or European Convention on Human Rights there may be a right of appeal.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>When a Failed Asylum Seeker refuses to leave the UK voluntarily then administrative removal may be sought. Most receiving countries are notified of the potential return of their national if a travel document is required to facilitate the journey. Receiving countries have differing requirements for travel documentation. This is usually limited to basic personal information and supporting evidence such as a copy of a passport or birth certificate (if available) to confirm identity and nationality.</p><p> </p><p>In accordance with our obligations under the Refugee Convention, EU and domestic law, we do not disclose information about an individual’s asylum claim to their home country or seek information in a way that could expose them, or any family who remain in that country, to serious risk.  All claimants are made aware that we do not disclose, to their own country, that they have claimed asylum in the UK, but we may share some information, for example, to help obtain travel documentation if their claim is refused</p>

We value the contribution made by Commonwealth citizens who have made a life in the UK and would not want anyone to feel unwelcome or to be in any doubt of their right to remain here.</p><p>To ensure that events of this nature do not happen again, the Home Secretary has announced that we will bring independent oversight and challenge to an internal lessons learned review already underway in my department.</p><p>The review will seek to draw out how members of the Windrush generation came to be entangled in measures designed for illegal immigrants; why that was not spotted sooner; and whether the right corrective measures are now in place. The review will take into account the experiences of those involved and wider reflections on Home Office culture as a whole.</p><p>The Home Secretary has asked for the review to aim to complete its work before summer recess.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We work closely with The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to identify cases that they deem in need of resettlement according to agreed vulnerability criteria for the Syrian Resettlement Scheme.</p><p>The scheme is based on need and supports those who cannot be supported effectively in their region of origin.</p><p>The Home Office is committed to publishing data in an orderly way as part of the regular quarterly Immigration Statistics, in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics. Latest statistics published on 25 February 2016 confirms in 2015, a total of 1,194 people were resettled the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) including 1,085 who arrived in the last quarter of 2015. Of those resettled under the scheme in 2015, 605 were under 18 years old.</p> more like this
