star this property answer text <p>We have provided £52 million in 2021/22 for Health Education England to invest in the cancer and diagnostics workforce, including offering training grants for 250 nurses wishing to become cancer clinical nurse specialists and for an additional 100 nurses wishing to become chemotherapy nurses. Following the Spending Review in 2021, individual budgets for 2022/23 to 2024/25, including for training the cancer workforce, will be subject to a detailed financial planning exercise and finalised in due course.</p><p>The NHS People Plan includes a programme to retain staff through prioritising health and wellbeing. All staff have access to resources such as health and wellbeing apps, a helpline and text service and 40 mental health hubs. The NHS Retention Programme is also targeting interventions to support staff to stay in the profession.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In 2020, the Government increased thresholds by £90,000 to remove all staff with threshold income below £200,000 from scope of the tapered annual allowance. An estimated 96% of general practitioners and 98% of consultants are out of scope of the taper based on National Health Service earnings.</p><p>An individual may choose to reduce their working hours or take early retirement for a range of reasons. The Department monitors retirement patterns and hours worked by senior doctors. NHS Digital’s workforce statistics show the participation rate, or average contracted hours per person, for consultants has been stable for several years. Data from the NHS Business Services Authority shows that while the number of consultants taking voluntary early retirement as a proportion of all consultant retirements has increased since 2012, it has not changed significantly in more recent years.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>NHS Digital publishes Hospital and Community Health Services (HCHS) workforce statistics. These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in England, but not staff working in primary care or in general practice surgeries, local authorities or other providers. The information requested as of 15 June 2022 is not currently held. However, as of December 2021, there were 642,560 full-time equivalent (FTE) professionally qualified clinical staff working in National Health Service trusts and CCGs. This includes 127,959 doctors and 339,942 nurses, midwives and health visitors.</p><p>The following table shows the FTE number and proportion of professionally qualified clinical staff by self-reported nationality as at December 2021. star this property answer text <p>There are currently no plans to publish a report relating to the internal policy assessment on these Regulations. The Department is considering the emerging evidence to ensure that the policy continues to protect National Health Service resources, while maintaining a humanitarian approach to the provision of healthcare. This assessment considers the effect on the most vulnerable migrants and overseas visitors, pregnant women and new mothers, as well as destitute migrants. It also focussed on ensuring that we continue to meet our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 with regards to individuals or groups with protected characteristics, including but not limited to race, disability, sex and gender and maternity.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Probation Service is responsible for producing Pre-Sentence Reports (PSRs) when they are requested by the Court. A PSR includes a sentencing recommendation based on an offender's individual circumstances and consideration of public protection concerns, alongside suitable rehabilitative and punitive requirements.</p><p>A PSR can be delivered to Courts in a range of formats including the longer written Standard Delivery Report (SDR), and the Short Format Report (SFR) which can be delivered in written or oral format.</p><p>The key principles for decisions on the format of report delivery to Court are:</p><ol><li>What information is available to the PSR author and the Court on the day of sentence. Access to information regarding risk from other agencies does inform the risk assessment and so can affect proposals to the court. Where this information is not available on the day, the impact of this needs to be assessed to determine whether a longer adjournment is needed.</li><li>Complexity of the risk assessment. The presence of factors that require additional assessment, professional discussion, and / or multiple enquiries to aid risk assessment has an important bearing on whether reports should be delivered on the day of request or adjourned for further assessment.</li></ol><p>As a general rule all report types are suitable for use across the sentencing thresholds. Guidance is available for probation staff to assist them in determining when to request for a longer adjournment to facilitate an SDR report.</p><p>The Probation Service is working on a range of initiatives to increase the number of cases in which the Courts receive written reports. These are:</p><ul><li>A pilot scheme across fifteen courts, aimed at targeting written reports at specific cohorts where a more detailed exploration of complex issues relating to trauma, maturity and the loss of liberty may be needed.</li><li>Rolling out across England and Wales a scheme to provide PSRs on committal from magistrates’ courts to the Crown Court, following a successful pilot in Bristol. The Probation Service continues to utilise a PSR before plea process, which enables PSRs to be prepared on cases ahead of the first hearing if an indication of an intended guilty plea is given.</li><li>Supporting case progression in appropriate cases with PSRs prepared in advance of first hearing at both Crown and Magistrates’ Courts.</li></ul>
