Since 2010, and over the current spending <br>review period, the Government has committed an additional £544,000 of specific <br>funding for the Unit. <br><br>The National Crime Agency focuses on the relentless disruption of serious and <br>organised criminals and those that present the highest risk to the UK and its <br>communities. Where high risk organised criminals are engaged in illegal <br>wildlife trade the NCA will lead, support or coordinate an appropriate level of <br>response. That response could include the NCA’s niche capabilities such as the <br>National Cyber Crime Unit or its global network of liaison officers.<br><br>Border Force also actively contributes to the UK’s multi-agency approach to <br>tackling wildlife crime involving the international trade in endangered species <br>and their derivatives. At an operational level the Border Force CITES team work <br>with Government agencies including the National Wildlife Crime Unit and NCA to <br>target illegal wildlife traffickers. The team also deliver training for NCA <br>Officers, the police and many international law enforcement agencies. Through <br>partnership working a number of successful prosecutions have taken place <br>including for ivory and hard coral smuggling. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/12/2014 answer text <p>Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates are designed to help employers make more informed recruitment decisions. <br>Self-employed people cannot apply directly to the DBS for a standard or enhanced criminal record certificate. This is because the legislation requires that the purpose of the check is to assess the individual’s suitability for a particular post or activity, and that a recruiting organisation must confirm the eligibility of a position for a criminal records check. The vast majority of applicants do receive their certificates in a timely manner and in December the average processing time for DBS applications was 15.3 days.</p><p>It is important that checks undertaken are thorough and sometimes the DBS needs to refer an application to one or more local police forces as part of the enhanced certificate checking process. Unfortunately, a small number of forces have been experiencing difficulties in completing their checks within expected timescales.</p><p>Where delays occur in the processing of DBS certificates, prospective employers of trainee nurses and other healthcare employees who will be working with adults only are able to use a service known as Adult First. Performance data relating to February 2016 indicates that average processing time for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) applications was 15 days. It is important that checks undertaken are thorough and a proportion of the applications received by the DBS need to be referred to one or more police forces as part of the enhanced disclosure process.</p><p>The DBS is reliant on police forces completing their checks in a timely manner. A small number of forces have experienced difficulties in meeting the service level agreements in place between the DBS and each force. Whilst no assessment has been made of the impact of timeliness on unemployed customers, it is recognised that delays may create problems for some people. The DBS is working closely with those forces whose performance does not meet turnaround time targets.
