star this property answer text <p>Under the Climate Change Act 2008 we are required to follow international guidelines on emissions reporting, which require emissions from the burning of oil and gas to be accounted for in the country in which they are used. This is in line with guidance from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.</p><p> </p><p>Emissions from UK oil and gas extraction are accounted for in our legally-binding carbon budgets. This includes projected future emissions from new licensing rounds. The judgment of the Oslo District Court does not change this.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>When assessing the full economic contribution of the offshore oil and gas sector, it is necessary to use a wide range of data sources, given its diverse supply chain and regional significance. The Department uses the Offshore Energies UK’s (OEUK’s) Workforce Insight reports which contain data and insights on direct, indirect and induced jobs supported by the sector.</p><p> </p><p>We introduced the Offshore Petroleum Licensing Bill, recognising that the broad skills and capabilities across the workforce will be vital for the transition required for net zero.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK is a world leader in phasing out unabated fossil fuels and was pleased to help negotiate the Global Stocktake at COP28.</p><p> </p><p>UK oil and gas production will, with new licences, decline by 7% a year - which is faster than the global decline required to align with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 1.5°C pathways. Issuing new licences will reduce higher emission imports and retain vital capabilities in the sector that are vital to the transition to clean technologies. This is consistent with the agreement at COP28 to transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems.</p> more like this
