These include support for a project to encourage the uptake of Silvopastoral Systems (SPS) by Colombian farmers. By introducing SPS, the project is protecting forests, improving the livelihood of farmers, increasing biodiversity and reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions through improved land management. It does this through SPS techniques which improve the grazing land by the planting of trees, shrubs and fodder crops, installing living fences and conserving existing forest.</p><p> </p><p>Participating small farmers, the majority of whom are living in conditions of rural poverty, are also able to raise more, healthier cattle on their existing land, increasing their income and reducing the need to clear forest. The Government has set aside £1 billion to support the first CCS projects in the UK, and is investing around £100m now to take two innovative projects forward into the detailed engineering and design phase known as FEED.</p><p> </p><p>The Peterhead and White Rose FEED studies have now commenced. We have taken time to develop a detailed FEED programme that will deliver the outputs necessary to take a final investment decision with confidence. The companies involved will take investment decisions in late 2015, with Government taking decisions shortly after. The UK Government and EDF Group reached commercial agreement on the key terms of a proposed investment contract for the Hinkley Point C, details of which were published on 21 October 2013. Furthermore, the publication of the Opening Decision on the Hinkley Point C State aid case by the European Commission is another important step forward in the consideration of the case and an investigation is a standard part of the State aid process for cases like Hinkley. The Commission have opened a public consultation on 7<sup>th</sup> March 2014 on their Opening Decision and Government welcome all to participate in this.</p><p> </p><p>No date has been set for Sizewell C to begin generating electricity. This market has changed significantly over the last decade. However, the findings of this report do not suggest that the changes to the size and shape of the retail market for road fuels have had significant impacts on the UK's ability to be able to respond to supply disruptions or that these have significantly reduced the access of UK motorists to a local supply of fuel. The sanctions we have imposed to date are having an impact. The European Council is clear that it will respond with further wide-ranging measures if there is any further destabilisation in Ukraine by Russia.</p><p> </p><p>The contract between Gazprom and Centrica is a commercial matter. It relates to a small part of total gas supply to the UK. While the contract is with a Russian company, the gas can be sourced from anywhere in the European network.
