	question text	To ask Her Majesty’s Government what oversight is provided to private higher education providers enrolling students onto degree courses to ensure minimum criteria are met for entry onto undergraduate degrees.

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/11/2016 answer text <p>It is for individual higher education providers to determine the minimum criteria for entry onto their courses.</p><p> </p><p>However, private providers must meet a number of conditions to gain designation for student support. These include having a successful Quality Assurance Agency Higher Education Review (Alternative Providers), which tests providers’ recruitment, selection and admission policies and procedures, as well as ensuring that all students recruited onto courses designated for student support meet a minimum English Language requirement.</p><p> </p><p>The Department monitors whether providers comply with the conditions of designation to ensure providers are held accountable and to protect the student and public interest. They are transparent, reliable, valid, inclusive and underpinned by appropriate organisational structures and processes. They support higher education providers in the selection of students who are able to complete their programme.”</p><p> </p><p>It is a condition of designation for student support that private providers maintain successful outcomes from these QAA reviews and annual monitoring. The Home Office publishes the number of asylum claims from unaccompanied children as part of the quarterly immigration statistics release. The claim is ongoing, if a claimant is subsequently granted leave their passports or identifying documents will be returned to them at that point.</p><p>2. When a negative decision is made we will retain documents that may be required to facilitate removal, the power to do this comes from Section17 of the Asylum and Immigration (treatment of claimants Act, etc) 2004.</p><p>3. Any documents verified as being non genuine will be retained for disposal by the National Document Fraud Unit.</p><p>4. In EEA/EU asylum claims if removal, deportation or extradition is being pursued, any documents must be retained until a decision is taken. If removal is not being pursued, for example if the claimant is exercising their free movement rights, any documents should be returned.</p><p>A document that has been submitted with a visa application will be retained for 10 years if the document has been verified as being false and has been relied upon in a refusal decision. If it has been verified as being genuine, copies will be kept for up to 2 years.
