	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/04/2016 answer text <p>Mandatory training relating to disability hate crime was delivered, across the Crown Prosecution Service, between September 2015 and January 2016.</p><p>Prosecutors will deploy the knowledge gained from the training in the course of prosecutions thereby improving performance.</p><p>The CPS are enhancing the support provided to prosecutors in dealing with crimes committed against disabled people. Legal guidance on disability hate crime was refreshed in 2015 and a supporting training package was delivered to all CPS lawyers by January 2016. This equips prosecutors with up to date knowledge to inform their decision making and approach to building the strongest cases possible. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/12/2015 answer text <p>The Home Office has collected disability hate crime data from the police since 2011/12.</p><p>In 2011/12, the police recorded 1,748 disability hate crime offences, 1,911 in 2012/13, 2,006 in 2013/14, and 2,508 in 2014/15.</p><p>As stated by the Office for National Statistics, action taken by police forces to improve their compliance with the National Crime Recording Standard has led to improved recording of crime over the last year, especially for violence against the person offences. Crime that is motivated by hostility or hatred towards the victim is particularly corrosive and can have devastating consequences for victims and their families. We are committed to working with communities in order to keep them safe.</p><p>We have announced that we will publish a new hate crime action plan next year. This will include a number of actions aimed at reducing the number of hate crimes committed against disabled people, and also improving the response to these crimes when they occur.</p><p>I, and other ministers, attended a roundtable on disability hate crime in October. This gave me the opportunity to speak to a range of people, including representatives of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, researchers and service users. A key part of our action plan will include understanding the issues behind hate crime, and this was an important first step towards this. Officials are taking forward actions from this meeting.</p><p>The Government is currently speaking to a number of organisations and individuals to inform the next steps in developing this action plan. In May 2014, the College also published specific Hate Crime Operational Guidance.</p><p>(2) CPS have created a training support package focused on disability hate crime and reflecting refreshed legal guidance on disability hate crime. This was piloted on 17 July and is currently being rolled out to all CPS Areas. The aim of the training is to provide prosecutors in CPS Areas with guidance on the key elements of prosecuting disability hate crime, resulting in greater confidence in handling cases and improved prosecution performance. The training has been mandated for all Area prosecutors and will be concluded by the end of the calendar year.</p><p>The Government is currently speaking to a number of organisations and individuals to inform the next steps in our strategy to both raise awareness and encourage reporting of disability hate crime. Crime that is motivated by hostility or hatred towards the victim is particularly corrosive and can have devastating consequences for victims and their families. In 2012, the previous Government published a hate crime action plan and a total of 13 actions were dedicated to the prevention of disability hate crime, including the creation of a new cross government Disability Strategy, the publication of the Crown Prosecution Service Action Plan on disability hate crime and publishing examples of good practice by disabled persons’ user-led organisations. The progress report on the action plan, published in 2014, showed that we had either completed or made good progress on all actions.</p><p>The number of police-recorded hate crimes against disabled people has increased each year since records began in 2011. There were 1,753 reports in 2011/2012, 1,843 in 2012/2013 and 1,985 in 2013/2014. This could indicate that there is an increased understanding of disability hate crime by police and victims.</p><p>The Government is currently speaking to a number of organisations and individuals to inform the next steps in our strategy to tackle disability hate crime.
