	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/07/2019 answer text <p>The UK is committed to supporting entrepreneurship in Africa to grow local economies, create jobs, reduce poverty and support sustainable development. Last summer, the PM announced that CDC Group, the UK’s Development Finance Institution, would invest up to £3.5 billion in businesses in Africa over four years (2018 to 2021). CDC has already committed £1.9bn in Africa over the last 3 years (2016-2018). CDC is invested in 698 different companies in Africa, directly supporting 370,000 jobs.</p><p>Through CDC and other country specific initiatives, we will mobilise a further £4 billion of private investment for Africa. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/10/2018 answer text <p>The impact and effectiveness of the development measures announced by the Prime Minister on her recent visit to Africa will be assessed in the same way as all UK aid, using robust and well established procedures. UK development assistance is rigorously scrutinised to ensure it is used for its intended purpose, including by DFID’s Internal Audit Department, the National Audit Office and the Independent Commission for Aid Impact. DFID implements a robust monitoring and evaluation system to ensure that UK aid reaches the intended beneficiaries and achieves the best development outcomes, with a strong focus on ensuring value for money for the UK taxpayer. Programme evaluations are conducted in line with the UK Government evaluation guidelines to help improve effectiveness and to serve an accountability function. There are strong controls in place to monitor spending, including mapping the flow of funds to beneficiaries and regular audits of programme spending. For example, DFID invested in Rwanda in local production of complementary food which is reducing stunting among children aged between 6-23 months, and in Malawi in the production of groundnuts that are locally processed into children’s therapeutic food. DFID’s support for the Purchase from Africans for Africa project links local producers to school feeding, with 72,000 children and 16,000 farmers benefiting in five African countries.
