star this property answer text <p>The health and wellbeing of National Health Service staff is, and has always been, very important to the Government. At the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak we assessed that they would potentially need additional mental health and occupational health support.</p><p>We commissioned NHS England and NHS Improvement to develop a comprehensive package of emotional, psychological and practical support for NHS staff - building on the support already in place in local NHS organisations. The support package was launched by NHS England and NHS Improvement on 8 April.</p><p>NHS England and NHS Improvement have also launched a new framework, which will enable employers to buy-in additional occupational health support for their staff. This will supplement support already available in NHS organisations.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government included in its Mandate to NHS England an objective for them to “make partnership a success”. This includes “<em>championing the Time to Change campaign to raise awareness of mental health issues and reduce stigma, including in the NHS workforce</em>”.</p><br /><p>In taking this forward, NHS England recently announced the &quot;A healthy NHS workforce&quot; initiative. This aims to raise staff awareness and understanding of mental health issues, helping to ensure they have access to help, support and treatment when they need it. A copy of the announcement is attached.</p><br /><p>“A healthy NHS workforce” includes, for example, line manager trainingand, providing NHS staff rapid access to talking therapies. Thisis currently being tested as part of the Healthy Workforce programme led by NHS England.</p><br /><p>In addition, NHS Employers have launched the <em>How are you feeling NHS? </em>toolkit. This has been developed with NHS staff to help bridge a gap in understanding and enable them to: talk openly and regularly about their emotional health; assess the impact emotional wellbeing has on themselves, their colleagues and patients, and help with action planning to enable more good days than bad. star this property answer text <p>NHS England’s recent announcement &quot;A healthy NHS workforce&quot;, aims to raise staff awareness and understanding of mental health issues and ensure staff have access to help, support and treatment when they need it.</p><br /><p>“A healthy NHS workforce” includes, for example, line manager training and, providing NHS staff rapid access to talking therapies. This is currently being tested as part of the Healthy Workforce programme led by NHS England.</p><br /><p>NHS Employers is working with NHS England and Public Health England on improving NHS staff health and wellbeing. star this property answer text <p>The Department continues to monitor overall staffing levels across the National Health Service (NHS), and we are working across Government to ensure there are sufficient staff to provide a high-quality service. We have committed to deliver 50,000 more nurses in the National Health Service This will help support the 1.4 million people who make up the NHS workforce and address the longstanding NHS nursing shortages that were identified in the Interim NHS People Plan. NHS England and NHS Improvement launched the support package on 8 April 2020 which can be accessed via the following link:</p><p><a href="https://people.nhs.uk/help/" target="_blank">people.nhs.uk/help/</a></p><p>Development of the support package has been informed by both the experiences of NHS staff contacting the national telephone and text service, as well as expert advice and research into mental health needs following major incidents.
