The attached table provides the net current expenditure per head of population who receive adult social care aged 65 and over, broken down by local authority and year. The last column shows the percentage change between 2009-10 and 2013-14.</del></p><p> </p><p><ins class="ministerial">Local authorities in England spent £6.7 billion on social care for people aged over 65 and over in 2013-14, compared with £7.4 billion in 2009-10. In 2013-14 the National Health Service transferred £859 million to social care but we are unable to include this investment in the overall spending figure as we do not hold information on how much of it was spent on people aged 65 and over.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The attached table provides a breakdown of expenditure on social care per head of population aged 65 and over broken down by local authority in 2009-10 and 2013-14. The table also details the percentage change and actual change between those two financial years. The first submission period will cover January to March 2016. Statistical reports based on the initial data collection will be published in mid-2016.</ins></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance <em>Multiple sclerosis: management of multiple sclerosis in primary and secondary care</em>, updated in October 2014, sets out best practice on the diagnosis, treatment, care and support of people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The guidance makes a range of recommendations on drug based treatments for MS, but also highlights the importance of involving professionals who can meet the needs of the patient in the best way, such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists. </del></p><p> </p><p> </p><p><ins class="ministerial"></ins></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">With regard to early diagnosis, MS is a difficult condition to diagnose as a number of the symptoms such as fatigue, depression or dizziness may be unrelated. The guidance sets out a number of initial presentations that clinicians should be aware of when looking for signs of MS. Information pertaining to this period is not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p><p>Responsibility for funding general practice premises development has now been transferred to NHS England.</p><p> </p><p>Between 1 April 2013 and 1 April 2014, more than 100 business cases for premises development were approved by NHS England. A standardised approach to admissions was not in place which meant that a clear understanding of the numbers of cases referred, or the reasons for referral was not available.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The need for a national process for admissions was highlighted in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Tier 4 Report, published in July and NHS England have been working with young people and their families during August and September to develop an admissions standard protocol.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>NHS Area Teams are currently discussing with relevant CAMHS providers the introduction of the protocol in November 2014. The protocol will be reviewed in January 2015.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>NHS England anticipates that a standard protocol will be included in contracts from 2015. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/10/2014 answer text <p>The Ministers of the Department of Health have had no meetings with their European Union counterparts about treatment strategies for scoliosis.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Scoliosis is the abnormal curvature of the spine to the sides but is not considered a disease and does not always require treatment. However, for those in which the condition causes a long-term problem, the Department in its mandate to NHS England sets out plans to enhance the quality of life for all patients with a long-term condition, including those affected by scoliosis.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In addition, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence published guidance in June 2014 which states that the ‘Magnetic Expansion Control System should be considered for children aged 2 and over with scoliosis, who need surgery to correct their curved spine’.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Information concerning the number of finished consultant episodes for patients with a primary diagnosis of scoliosis in the last five years is attached. It should be noted that these figures do not represent the number of different patients, as a person may have more than one episode of care within the same stay in hospital or in different stays in the same year. Data also capture a small number of no-surgical interventions, such as drug treatments.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The cost of treating a patient aged 19 years and over with scoliosis or other spinal deformity in one episode of care under a consultant is £1,368. This is the national average unit cost reported by NHS trusts and foundation trusts in 2012-13 reference costs submitted to the Department.
