star this property answer text <p>Through the Conflict Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) the UK is supporting the UN Women-led Yemeni Women’s Pact to increase Yemeni women’s capacity to influence the Yemeni peace processes.</p><p> </p><p>The Pact is a platform for Yemeni women leaders to forge strategic links and alliances, develop effective coalitions with key actors, build their capacity and raise awareness of women’s organisations. In the coming financial year (2019/2020) we expect to provide £300,000 in support to the Pact.</p><p> </p><p>The CSSF also supports the grassroots inclusion of women’s voices in local peacebuilding initiatives through its Women Peace and Security programme. This support also provides a connection between the Yemeni Women’s Pact and grassroots women’s organisations. The CSSF will also be funding a gender advisor as well as a senior inclusion advisor for the Special Envoys office this year.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK is leading efforts to strengthen peace and stability in Yemen and fully supports the work of UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths towards achieving a negotiated and durable peace settlement.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to support conflict management and peacebuilding in Yemen. Through the UK’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund, we provided £1.04 million towards conflict management and peacebuilding in 2016, £1.04 million in 2017, £2.95 million in 2018, and have a proposed budget of £2.83 million for 2019.</p><p> </p><p>DFID is also funding activities focussed on strengthening local peacebuilding and improving the role of women in peacebuilding in Yemen. We provided £258,000 last financial year (2018/19) and have a proposed budget of £3.26 million for 2019/20.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK continues to support the efforts of the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths to secure the Yemeni parties' agreement to his proposals for a nationwide ceasefire, humanitarian confidence-building measures and a resumption of the UN-led political process. We engage regularly with international partners on Yemen, including through our role as penholder in the UN Security Council. On 2 September, the Prime Minister discussed Yemen with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. On 24 August I spoke with Yemeni Foreign Minister Hadhrami about the peace process and developments in the South. On 1 July, the Foreign Secretary wrote a joint op-ed with his Swedish and German counterparts calling for the international community to back peace efforts.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK champions and supports the important role women, youth and civil society can play in ending the conflict in Yemen. We are a global leader on the Women Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and the penholder on UNSCR 1325 at the Security Council.</p><p>We continue to support the work of UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths, who is actively engaging women in the peace process. We also fund Senior Gender Advisor and Senior Inclusion Advisor positions in his office. Complementing the UN's efforts to deliver a durable and sustainable peace deal, the UK's Conflict Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) supports a range of Track II (Influential Figures) and Track III (Civil Society and Local Groups) initiatives which promote a more inclusive political dialogue. We also support the Yemeni Women's Pact for Peace and Security (through UN Women), which aims to increase female leadership and inclusion in the peace processes, as well as a variety of projects aimed at supporting the work of grassroots women leaders and civil society organisations in communities across Yemen.</p>

An inclusive political settlement is the only way to bring long-term stability to Yemen and to address the worsening humanitarian crisis.</p><p>We welcome the Saudi announcement on 22 March of a new peace initiative, which includes a nationwide ceasefire, the opening of Sana'a airport and Hodeidah port, and a return to formal peace talks between the Government and the Houthis. We urge the Houthis to engage constructively with the UN Special Envoy to end this horrific conflict.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Houthis' offensive on Marib and Shabwa and their intensifying of cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia worsens the crisis and risks derailing the peace process. On 20 October the UK supported a UN Security Council Press Statement calling for an immediate end to the Houthi escalation in Marib. The Foreign Secretary also raised Yemen with Saudi counterparts on her visit to Riyadh on 20 October. We fully support the Yemen peace process led by the UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg. An inclusive political settlement is the only way to bring long-term stability to Yemen and end the humanitarian suffering. We urge the parties to engage constructively with this process and call on all states to release humanitarian funding commitments promptly.</p> more like this
