The Yemeni Government and the Houthis agreed on a ceasefire and redeployments of forces in Hodeidah Governorate, an exchange of prisoners, and an understanding on easing the situation in Ta'iz. They also agreed to engage in further discussions on a Framework establishing the principles for inclusive negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen - the worst humanitarian crisis in the world today.
more like this

The UK has used its role as penholder at the UN Security Council to help push the Yemen peace process forward. In September 2019, the UK co-hosted a political event at the UN General Assembly to coordinate the international community's support for the UN-led peace process. We are supporting the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths to protect progress on de-escalation and the Saudi-brokered Riyadh Agreement in preparation for wider political consultations.
more like this

A political settlement is the only way to bring long-term stability to Yemen and to address the humanitarian crisis. The Yemeni parties must engage constructively and in good faith to overcome obstacles and find a political solution to end the conflict.

The UK has played a leading role in diplomatic efforts, including bringing together key international actors to try to find a peaceful solution. I met Yemeni, Saudi, Emirati and Omani representatives during my recent visit to the Gulf to press for continued commitment to the UN-led peace process. For example, we supported the Yemeni Women's Pact for Peace and Security (through UN Women), which aimed to increase female leadership and inclusion in the peace processes.

We continue to support the UN Special Envoy, who is actively engaging women in the peace process and involving a wide range of Yemenis. We fund a Senior Gender Adviser position and an Economist position in his office. Complementing the UN's efforts to deliver a durable and sustainable peace deal, the UK's Conflict Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) has supported a range of Track II (Influential Figures) and Track III (Civil Society and Local Groups) initiatives which promote a more inclusive political dialogue, including at the subnational level.

An inclusive political settlement is the only way to bring long-term stability to Yemen and end the humanitarian suffering. Special Envoy Grundberg recently visited Yemen and regional countries to drive momentum behind the peace process. However, the Houthis' offensive on Marib and Shabwa and the intensifying of Houthi cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia are worsening the crisis. On 20 October the UK supported a UN Security Council Press Statement calling for an immediate end to the Houthi escalation in Marib. The Foreign Secretary also raised Yemen with Saudi counterparts on her visit to Riyadh on 20 October. We urge the parties to engage constructively with the UN process and call on all states to release humanitarian funding commitments promptly.
more like this
