star this property answer text <p>This Government is committed to a competitive tax regime and has introduced a range of measures to reduce the burden of National Insurance Contributions (NICs), as part of our long term economic plan to back business and create jobs.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Employment Allowance, introduced in April this year, means that around 450,000 employers– one third of all employers – are expected to be taken out of paying employer NICs altogether in 2014-15 and from April 2015, employer NICs for under 21 year olds will be abolished, helping to support jobs for almost 1.5 million young people currently in employment.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) announced on 16 October 2014 the closure of 14 of its smaller offices across the UK which do not fit the medium to long term plans of any line of business currently operating from them. This included one office in North Wales, Government Buildings, Colwyn Bay and followed consultation with staff, departmental trade unions and elected representatives.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Following the decision, 38 people in Colwyn Bay have been given priority status for vacancies at their grade both within HMRC and in other government departments.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>HMRC has not invited staff in Colwyn Bay office to consider voluntary redundancy at this stage. HMRC remains committed to avoiding compulsory redundancy and will do everything it reasonably can to avoid it.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There will be no impact on local HMRC services when the office in Colwyn Bay closes in July 2015 as it is not involved in direct customer-facing work.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The estimate for the tax year 2014-15 shows that there are 23.7m taxpayers aged between 21 and 64 and 5.9m aged 65 or over. Within this there are approximately 4.4m taxpayers aged between 21 and 64 and 500,000 taxpayers aged 65 or over who pay the higher rate or above.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>This table contains estimates of the total number of taxpayers aged under 21 years old, 21 to 64 years old and those aged 65 and over split by the marginal tax rates. These figures are projected for 2014-15.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The estimates are based upon the 2011-12 Survey of Personal Incomes using economic assumptions consistent with the OBR’s March 2014 economic and fiscal outlook to project forward.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Estimates of the UK population by age are published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
