Because these services are integrated, it is not possible to disaggregate figures solely relating to safe abortion procedures.</p><p> </p><p>The aim of DFID’s work on sexual and reproductive health and rights is to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions, increase the use of voluntary family planning, and give women control over their own bodies and lives.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK government will continue to lead the world in our long-term support for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and to help women and girls get the information and services they need to give them control over their own lives and bodies.</p><p> </p><p>Following the reintroduction and expansion of the Mexico City Policy in January 2017, we have kept in close contact with partners to ensure the policy does not compromise UK-supported comprehensive SRHR programming. The full implications of the now further expanded Mexico City Policy are not yet clear, but we are closely monitoring developments. In countries where abortion is permitted, we can support programmes that make safe abortion more accessible in order to save the lives of women who would otherwise risk death or disability through backstreet abortions.
