	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/05/2018 answer text <p>The Government is committed to increasing participation in level 3 mathematics to ensure the future workforce is skilled, competitive and productive. Since 2004, entries to A level mathematics have risen by 83% (84,226 in 2017). It is now the most popular A level and taken by 23.8% of students taking academic qualifications. There are currently over 250 students attending the two open mathematics schools sponsored by King’s College London and Exeter University along with Exeter College.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has already implemented a number of the recommendations made by the Smith Review. A funding incentive has been introduced to help schools and colleges increase participation in post-16 academic mathematics qualifications. The advanced maths premium will provide up to £600 per additional student studying academic level 3 mathematics qualifications.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has reduced the requirements for an additional payment that supports those 16 to 19 year olds who are undertaking a greater number of subjects post 16. The changes aim to provide a further financial incentive for promoting the further mathematics A level. Students will now need to achieve a grade C rather than a grade B in their further mathematics A level for their school or college to receive this additional payment</p><p> </p><p>The Government continues to fund centrally delivered professional development programmes for core maths, AS/A levels mathematics and further mathematics. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/06/2015 answer text <p><strong></strong></p><p /> <p>The Education and Adoption Bill proposes that swift action will be taken when a school is judged inadequate by Ofsted and under the Bill an academy order would be made without first issuing a warning notice.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Where a school meets the new Education and Adoption Bill definition of coasting it would become eligible for intervention automatically without the need for a warning notice. Becoming eligible for intervention in this way will not necessarily mean the Regional Schools Commissioner will issue an academy order however. Under the bill, Regional Schools Commissioners will be able to intervene where a coasting school does not have the capacity to improve.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In other cases of underperformance, the school may be issued with a warning notice. These are Bexley, Bournemouth, Darlington, Doncaster, North East Lincolnshire, and Rutland.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There are two further local authorities which do not have any maintained secondary schools. These are the Isles of Scilly which only has a maintained all-through school for pupils up to age 16, and the City of London, which only has a primary school.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>At present there are no local authorities where all schools have become academies. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/06/2015 answer text <p>Sponsored academies have played a significant role over several years in bringing about the improvement of many failing and struggling schools in some of our most disadvantaged areas.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>By 2014, the proportion of pupils that achieved five good GCSEs, including English and Mathematics, in sponsored secondary academies open for four years had risen by an average of 6.4 percentage points compared to the schools that they replaced (a rise from 36.8 per cent in 2010 to 43.2 per cent in 2014). Over the same period, results in local authority schools rose by an average of 1.3 percentage points (a rise from 54.4 per cent to 55.7 per cent).</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The first sponsored primary academies had been open for two years by the time of the 2014 results. The proportion of pupils that achieved the expected level in reading, writing and mathematics increased by an average of 9 percentage points (from 58 per cent to 67 per cent) in that time, compared to an average 4 percentage point rise (from 75 per cent to 79 per cent) in local authority schools.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We want more schools to achieve these rates of improvement.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Statistics for the attainment of local authority schools and academies can be found on GOV.UK at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-education/about/statistics" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-education/about/statistics</a></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Since 2010, many successful schools have become converter academies and are sharing their educational expertise with other schools. Our focus is on building capacity in the system to enable schools to convert voluntarily. We will also continue to convert all schools that are judged inadequate by Ofsted so they can benefit from the support of a strong sponsor.</p><p> </p><p>It is important to be clear that the funding referred to in the previous answer is not solely for failing schools. As set out in our original response, it is funding that has been made available to support all schools converting to academy status, including failing schools.</p><p> </p><p>The criteria for allocating pre-opening funding to converting schools is well established and remain unchanged. Voluntary converters receive £25,000 in order to contribute to the cost of conversion.
