star this property answer text <p>The National Maritime Information Centre (NMIC) is reporting to interested government departments the movement and expected arrival information of vessels that have been in ports or anchorages in Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone within the Ebola incubation period (21 days). This information is made available to the ports and shipping communities, including port health authorities.</p><p> </p><p>There are six ships on the current Vessels of Interest (VoI) list which have, within the last 21 days, visited ports in the three countries affected by the Ebola outbreak. A total of 67 VoIs has been identified in the last two months. Most of these vessels have not called at a UK port but were rather travelling to neighbouring countries. Of these vessels, none have been identified as having any symptoms of Ebola like virus on board.</p> more like this

Work on additional guidance, which is being produced in consultation with Public Health England, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and industry has been under way for some time, and I have asked for this to be made available as soon as possible.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>All avenues to restrict the virus entering the UK are under constant review. UK Airlines are constantly reviewing the Foreign &amp; Commonwealth Office’s travel advice when planning their services and ensuring that measures they take are consistent with Public Health England guidance.</p><p> </p><p>Currently, the Foreign &amp; Commonwealth Office and the World Health Organisation are not recommending travel restrictions to countries in Africa with cases of Ebola. UK airlines are not planning to stop services to these countries. However, airlines and the UK Government are constantly reviewing the situation.</p><p> </p><p>A ban on direct flights would not allow a country to avoid the spread of a virus altogether, as potentially infected passengers could travel via hubs in third countries.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the UK has committed £205 million to contain, combat and ultimately defeat the disease in Sierra Leone. UK support will include the construction of six Ebola treatment centres across the country, providing 700 beds to treat 8,800 patients over the next six months.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In support of this effort, the UK has deployed 750 military personnel to Sierra Leone. This will support the deployment of RFA Argus and three Merlin helicopters which will provide crucial transport support to medical teams and aid experts. It also includes military personnel to staff a WHO Ebola Training Facility training healthcare workers, logisticians and hygiene specialists; and support to a UK joint civilian-military command and control hub, which will provide the backbone of infrastructure, commodities, training and management needed to scale up the response in Sierra Leone.</p><p> </p> more like this
