The Government is driving <br>forward work to tackle hostility and hate crime. We have toughened up <br>sentencing and are working closely with the police and other agencies to <br>increase reporting, improve support and prevent these terrible crimes happening <br>in the first place. <br><br>We continue to work with our voluntary sector partners to raise awareness of <br>hate crime at local and national events, and explore opportunities to promote <br>the use of the True Vision web tool further, including through targeted social <br>media advertising with direct messages to specific groups.<br><br>The Government’s action plan on hate crime, published in 2012, and progress <br>report, published in May 2014, outline actions currently being taken by the <br>Government to tackle hate crime, as well as the many actions which have already <br>been completed. <br><br>The Home Office has collected information on the number of disability and <br>sexual orientation hate crimes recorded by the police at the police force area <br>level since 2011/12. Data are therefore available for the Metropolitan police <br>area and for England and Wales for the three years, 2011/12, 2012/13 and <br>2013/14. Crime that is motivated by hostility or hatred towards the victim is particularly corrosive and can have devastating consequences for victims and their families. In 2012, the previous Government published a hate crime action plan and a total of 13 actions were dedicated to the prevention of disability hate crime, including the creation of a new cross government Disability Strategy, the publication of the Crown Prosecution Service Action Plan on disability hate crime and publishing examples of good practice by disabled persons’ user-led organisations. The progress report on the action plan, published in 2014, showed that we had either completed or made good progress on all actions.</p><p>The number of police-recorded hate crimes against disabled people has increased each year since records began in 2011. There were 1,753 reports in 2011/2012, 1,843 in 2012/2013 and 1,985 in 2013/2014. This could indicate that there is an increased understanding of disability hate crime by police and victims.</p><p>The Government is currently speaking to a number of organisations and individuals to inform the next steps in our strategy to tackle disability hate crime. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/12/2015 answer text <p>The Home Office has collected disability hate crime data from the police since 2011/12.</p><p>In 2011/12, the police recorded 1,748 disability hate crime offences, 1,911 in 2012/13, 2,006 in 2013/14, and 2,508 in 2014/15.</p><p>As stated by the Office for National Statistics, action taken by police forces to improve their compliance with the National Crime Recording Standard has led to improved recording of crime over the last year, especially for violence against the person offences. We are committed to working with communities in order to keep them safe.</p><p>We have announced that we will publish a new hate crime action plan next year. This will include a number of actions aimed at reducing the number of hate crimes committed against disabled people, and also improving the response to these crimes when they occur.</p><p>I, and other ministers, attended a roundtable on disability hate crime in October. This gave me the opportunity to speak to a range of people, including representatives of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, researchers and service users. A key part of our action plan will include understanding the issues behind hate crime, and this was an important first step towards this. Officials are taking forward actions from this meeting.</p><p>The Government is currently speaking to a number of organisations and individuals to inform the next steps in developing this action plan.
