star this property answer text <p>The War Widows Recognition Payment was announced in Parliament on 17 May 2023. A further announcement with details on taxation was made by the Financial Secretary to the Treasury on 19 September 2023. On 16 October 2023 the full policy was launched and details are available at the following website: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/war-widowers-recognition-payment" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/war-widowers-recognition-payment</a></p><p> </p><p>As at 19 January 2024, the number of War Widows Recognition Payments awarded was 100.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>I can confirm that the War Widow Pension has not been taxable since 1979 as per Section 639 of the Income Tax (earnings and Pensions) Act 2003.</p><p>Any tax wrongly applied to the payment would be as a result of a tax code provided by HMRC, which is responsible for correcting any tax records.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government recognises the unique commitment that service families make and remains sympathetic to the circumstances of those who remarried and cohabited before 1 April 2015. Successive Governments have had a policy against retrospective reinstatement.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>As previously stated by the Defence Secretary in the House, the Department is examining alternative methods to see whether we can mitigate the impact of these changes. We have consulted the Chair of the War Widows Association and HM Treasury.</p><p> </p> more like this
