Together with a greater awareness of disability hate crime, and improved willingness of victims to come forward, this is likely to be a factor in the increase in disability hate crimes recorded by the police.</p><p>This Government is committed to tackling hate crime. The UK has one of the strongest legislative frameworks in the world to tackle hate crime. The Government is driving <br>forward work to tackle hostility and hate crime. We have toughened up <br>sentencing and are working closely with the police and other agencies to <br>increase reporting, improve support and prevent these terrible crimes happening <br>in the first place. <br><br>We continue to work with our voluntary sector partners to raise awareness of <br>hate crime at local and national events, and explore opportunities to promote <br>the use of the True Vision web tool further, including through targeted social <br>media advertising with direct messages to specific groups.<br><br>The Government’s action plan on hate crime, published in 2012, and progress <br>report, published in May 2014, outline actions currently being taken by the <br>Government to tackle hate crime, as well as the many actions which have already <br>been completed. <br><br>The Home Office has collected information on the number of disability and <br>sexual orientation hate crimes recorded by the police at the police force area <br>level since 2011/12. In May 2014, the College also published specific Hate Crime Operational Guidance.</p><p>(2) CPS have created a training support package focused on disability hate crime and reflecting refreshed legal guidance on disability hate crime. This was piloted on 17 July and is currently being rolled out to all CPS Areas. The aim of the training is to provide prosecutors in CPS Areas with guidance on the key elements of prosecuting disability hate crime, resulting in greater confidence in handling cases and improved prosecution performance. The training has been mandated for all Area prosecutors and will be concluded by the end of the calendar year.</p><p>The Government is currently speaking to a number of organisations and individuals to inform the next steps in our strategy to both raise awareness and encourage reporting of disability hate crime. Crime that is motivated by hostility or hatred towards the victim is particularly corrosive and can have devastating consequences for victims and their families. In 2012, the previous Government published a hate crime action plan and a total of 13 actions were dedicated to the prevention of disability hate crime, including the creation of a new cross government Disability Strategy, the publication of the Crown Prosecution Service Action Plan on disability hate crime and publishing examples of good practice by disabled persons’ user-led organisations. The progress report on the action plan, published in 2014, showed that we had either completed or made good progress on all actions.</p><p>The number of police-recorded hate crimes against disabled people has increased each year since records began in 2011. There were 1,753 reports in 2011/2012, 1,843 in 2012/2013 and 1,985 in 2013/2014. This could indicate that there is an increased understanding of disability hate crime by police and victims.</p><p>The Government is currently speaking to a number of organisations and individuals to inform the next steps in our strategy to tackle disability hate crime. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/04/2016 answer text <p>Mandatory training relating to disability hate crime was delivered, across the Crown Prosecution Service, between September 2015 and January 2016.</p><p>Prosecutors will deploy the knowledge gained from the training in the course of prosecutions thereby improving performance.</p><p>The CPS are enhancing the support provided to prosecutors in dealing with crimes committed against disabled people.
