Members [Official Report - Vol 623 col 556] that she had intervened in the proposed acquisition of Sky plc by 21st Century Fox Inc on media public interest grounds and had issued a European Intervention Notice (EIN). Ofcom will consider any possible effects of 21st Century Fox Inc's bid for Sky plc on media plurality in their report on the media public interests mentioned in the EIN. Ofcom will now submit their report by 20 June 2017.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As set out in previous statements to the House, the Secretary of State's quasi-judicial responsibilities in relation to the proposed acquisition of Sky by 21st Century Fox will be discharged thoroughly, robustly and transparently. Such decisions must also be taken as promptly as is reasonably practicable.</p><p>On 29 June the Secretary of State announced that she is minded-to refer the merger to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on media plurality grounds. In coming to a final decision, consideration will be given to the available evidence before her including any further representations received following the call for evidence which closed on 14 July.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>At Autumn Statement 2016, the Government announced a a £1.1bn package to boost the UK’s digital infrastructure. This sum is intended to cover all future connectivity technologies and cover work in this area until 2020-21. This included investment in a nationally coordinated programme of full fibre and 5G Testbed &amp; Trials.</p><p>To date, the Government has invested £16 million for three leading 5G research institutions to establish a test network to test and trial 5G technologies and applications. This week, a £25 million competition was announced to select projects for initial funding as part of the first Phase of the Testbeds &amp; Trials Programme.</p><p>For the Local Full Fibre (LFFN) Programme, the Government announced in September that £10 million has been allocated for 6 full fibre test projects around the country, in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, West Sussex, Coventry and Warwickshire, Bristol (with Bath and North East Somerset), West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. Further measures will be set out in due course.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>The 5G briefing event in Glasgow is one of three events taking place across the UK to support the launch of the first competition for the Government’s 5G Testbeds &amp; Trials Programme. These events are open to potential bidders, including industry, academic institutions and local areas, and will help to prepare them to submit a proposal. We have advertised these events widely, emailing to over 9000 organisations across the whole of the UK, including Scottish Enterprise. Additional details are on the Innovate UK website, who are running the competition on behalf of DCMS.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The 5G briefing event in Glasgow will follow the same structure as the other briefing events taking place across the UK to support the launch of the first competition for the Government’s 5G Testbeds &amp; Trials Programme.</p><p> </p><p>The schedule for the event includes presentations from DCMS officials, which will cover the 5G Testbeds &amp; Trials Programme and information on the Phase 1 funding competition. As the competition is being run in conjunction with Innovate UK, representatives will also have a chance to address the audience on the competition’s selection process and eligibility.
