unstar this property answer text <p>As announced by the Prime Minister on 4 October 2023, the Government is creating the first smokefree generation, by bringing forward legislation so that children turning 14 this year or younger will never be legally sold tobacco products. This will prevent future generations from ever taking up smoking, as there is no safe age to smoke. We believe these are an effective way of encouraging smokers to switch to less harmful alternatives.</p><p> </p><p>Non-tobacco nicotine and vaping products are currently subject to the standard rate of VAT at 20%. Medicinally regulated products are subject to the reduced rate of VAT at 5%.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Passengers travelling from the EU may bring an unlimited amount of tobacco for heating into the UK without paying duty, provided it is for their own personal use.</p><p>Most passengers travelling from outside the EU may bring tobacco for heating products into the UK up to the value of £390. Passengers travelling by private plane or boat are only entitled to an allowance of £270.</p><p>The Government’s future approach is subject to the outcome of negotiations with the EU. However, the Government’s aim is to keep processes as close as possible to their current operation.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>There has been a long term reduction in annual tobacco duty receipts, driven by above-RPI increases in duty and changing attitudes to smoking. As shown in the published Tobacco Bulletin July 2018.</p><p> </p><p>In their November 2016 Economic and fiscal outlook the Office of Budget Responsibility revised their estimates of the underlying downward trend in clearances of tobacco. This was to account for various factors including weakness in tobacco receipts and the expected effects of the Tobacco Products Directive. Paragraph 4.75 noted that the effect on receipts from the introduction of standardised tobacco packaging is assumed to be captured by this downward trend in clearances across the forecast period.</p> more like this
