star this property answer text <p>The Irish General Election results are of course a matter for the people of Ireland. The UK and Ireland are the nearest of neighbours and we look forward to continuing to work closely together with the future Government. Our commitment to Northern Ireland, and the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement remains steadfast, including the principle of consent and the East/West institutions set out in the Agreement which will support our wider cooperation and bilateral engagement with Ireland.</p><p>It remains the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland's view that a majority of the people of Northern Ireland continue to support Northern Ireland's place in the United Kingdom. The circumstances set out in the Belfast Agreement that require the Secretary of State to hold a referendum on Irish unification are therefore not satisfied.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Clause 23 and Schedule 3 of the EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020 provide for certain changes to the Northern Ireland Act 1998 that will confer new statutory powers on the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. Those new powers will allow the Commissions to monitor, report on and enforce the Government’s commitment, as set out in Article 2(1) of the Northern Ireland/Ireland Protocol to the Withdrawal Agreement, that no diminution of certain rights, safeguards and equality of opportunity set out in the Belfast (‘Good Friday’) Agreement results from the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In 2014, the NI parties agreed further work would be undertaken to seek an acceptable way forward on the proposal for a pension for severely injured victims in Northern Ireland.</p><p> </p><p>The Executive Formation Act required the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to lay regulations for a Victims Payment Scheme, which he did on Friday 31 January.
