The meeting’s focus was on law enforcement co-operation aimed at tackling organised crime and criminality, including where this is linked to paramilitarism. star this property answer text <p>As announced by Her Majesty The Queen on 27 May 2015, legislation will be brought forward in this Parliament giving effect to the Stormont House Agreement in Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland (Stormont House Agreement) Bill will establish the Historical Investigations Unit, and an Oral History Archive. My officials are working with officials from the devolved administration on various aspects of the Bill.</p><p>The Bill will also provide for the Independent Commission for Information Retrieval which is to be established by an international agreement between the UK and Irish Governments. The Bill represents an important step forward towards recognising the needs of victims and putting in place new mechanisms to help Northern Ireland deal with its past.</p><p> </p> more like this

As the Noble Lord is aware, the involvement of the Irish Government was in accordance with the established three-stranded approach to Northern Ireland affairs and the 1998 Belfast Agreement. As the Conservative Party’s Northern Ireland Manifesto for the General Election states:</p><p>“This provides that Northern Ireland’s internal arrangements are for the parties here and the United Kingdom Government alone to decide. star this property answer text <p>The Irish Government was represented at the Stormont House talks by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charles Flanagan TD and Minister Sean Sherlock TD. The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, and Tánaiste Joan Burton, attended along with the Prime Minister, on 11-12 December. The Irish Government attended as one of the signatories to the Belfast Agreement. As has been previously set out to the Noble Lord, their participation was in accordance with the three stranded approach to Northern Ireland affairs which the Government has a manifesto pledge to uphold.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government intends to introduce the Northern Ireland (Stormont House Agreement) Bill to Parliament soon. This Bill will deliver on a number of key commitments in the Stormont House Agreement related to addressing the legacy of the Troubles. It will create the legislative framework for: the Historical Investigations Unit, the Independent Commission on Information Retrieval, and an Oral History Archive.</p><p>Another of the key commitments in the Agreement is the establishment of the Implementation and Reconciliation Group (IRG). It is not currently envisaged that the IRG will be included in the Northern Ireland (Stormont House Agreement) Bill, but the UK Government stands ready to assist on matters related to the IRG if requested to do so by the Northern Ireland parties.</p> more like this
