<p>The department seeks to deliver impact evaluations for all accredited programmes.
However, the feasibility of an impact evaluation needs to be reviewed first in an
evaluability study. The factors that are reviewed to determine whether an impact evaluation
is possible include:</p><p> </p><ul><li>The expected reduction in reoffending rate
for the specific offender cohort, and the appropriate number of years over which we
expect reductions in reoffending to occur;</li><li>The number of programme completers
required to detect this reduction (calculated using statistical power analysis); and</li><li>The
quality of the data and information available.</li></ul><p> </p><p>Evaluability studies
ensure that the best possible evaluation approach is identified. Therefore, it is
not possible to provide a single threshold for the number of participants in an accredited
programme below which it would not have an impact evaluation carried out, as it will
differ by programme.</p><p> </p><p>The department is committed to publishing all research
carried out in line with the Government Social Research guidelines.</p>
