With growth, the £100m equates to £112m for the 2019/20 financial year, £97m of which is for public sector prisons.</p><p> </p><p>Our recruitment drive continues to replace turnover in officer numbers and meet required staffing levels across the prison estate. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/07/2019 answer text <p>The information referred to is not collected centrally.</p><p> </p><p>Responsibility for education in adult prisons in England transferred from the Department for Education to the Ministry of Justice on 1 October 2016. Prior to that, prison education was managed and delivered by the Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS) under contracts held by the Skills Funding Agency.</p><p> </p><p>From 2016, revised OLASS arrangements placed responsibility on the OLASS contractor to ensure that competent and appropriately qualified staff were in place to deliver and assess learning delivered.</p><p> </p><p>New education delivery contracts in England are now in place: these were procured in succession to the OLASS arrangements that expired at the end of March. However, all pregnant women in custody have an individual care and management plan that is communicated to all staff and all pregnant women are seen by a mid-wife at least fortnightly or as required.</p><p> </p><p>Healthcare in prisons is provided by trained medics and nurses, but we have also made training on dealing with pregnant women available to all prison officers.</p><p> </p><p>We know it is extremely rare for a woman to give birth in prison - because every step is taken to get them to hospital - but those unique cases are invariably down to the unpredictability of labour.</p><p> </p><p>Our Female Offender Strategy made clear that we want fewer women serving short sentences in custody and more remaining in the community, making use of women’s centres to address needs such as substance misuse and mental health problems.</p> answering member constituency Charnwood answering member printed Edward Argar question first answered 23/07/2019 16:09:08 answering member 4362 label Biography information for Edward Argar
