star this property answer text <p>In March 2019, HM Treasury and the Ministry of Defence approved the procurement of five E-7 Wedgetail aircraft, however, discussions regarding the final E-7 Wedgetail fleet size are on-going with a decision expected in the first half of this year. The first UK E-7 Wedgetail is expected to enter service with the Royal Air Force in 2023.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The original estimated acquisition cost for five E-7 Wedgetail aircraft programme was £2155 million, which included acquisition, modification, infrastructure, training and support long lead time items (included initial spares provisioning).</p><p>The current forecast for the three aircraft programme is £1890 million.</p><p>The above figures reflect the current cost to completion of the E-7 programme, as outlined in the Defence Equipment Plan. They do not include estimated forecast savings from longer term sustainment through reduced support costs due to the reduction to three aircraft.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As a result of the decision to reduce the number of E7 Wedgetail aircraft, the Department expects to save around £350 million on initial acquisition and infrastructure costs. Further savings are expected to be realised throughout the programme as a result of reduced spares and support costs. There have been some foreign exchange rate cost increases in the overall programme that have offset some of these savings. As there are elements of the programme are not yet on contract, further details of expected savings from whole life costs are being withheld to avoid prejudicing the commercial interests of the Department.</p> more like this

Initial Operating Capability will follow three to six months after delivery. Analysis to determine the exact timing of the E-7 Wedgetail Initial Operating capability is ongoing, and will be confirmed when the Full Business Case is submitted in mid-2023.</p> more like this

I am withholding details of the acquisition cost and Whole Life Costs as not all elements of the programme are yet on contract and to release this information would prejudice the Ministry of Defence's commercial interests while negotiations have not yet concluded.</p> more like this
