We are targeting an in-service date of 2035. The definition set for initial operating capability is classified and I am withholding details as its disclosure would be likely to prejudice the capability, effectiveness, or security of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces. FCAS initial operating capability is planned to provide a step-change to the capabilities it will replace, including Typhoon.

more like this

However, the UK is also liaising closely with Ukraine to understand what further military support Ukraine will need, beyond the current conflict, to defend its sovereign territory in the medium and longer term.

more like this

answer text
Ukraine has inflicted heavy losses on Russian forces. We estimate that around 175,000 Russian military personnel have been injured or killed in the conflict. Despite Russian forces carrying out offensive operations across the front line in recent weeks, any Russian gains have been incremental and costly, and Ukraine’s defence has eroded the combat effectiveness of Russian forces.
more like this

answer text
This Government is firmly committed to the UK’s shipbuilding enterprise. In my role as Shipbuilding Tsar, and chair of the Shipbuilding Inter-Ministerial Group, I regularly discuss with my Cabinet colleagues how we can put in place the conditions for success in the sector.

The Fleet Solid Support (FSS) ship programme seeks to maximise the social value contribution shipbuilding can make in the UK, including encouraging investment in domestic shipyards, whilst balancing the need to deliver value for money. As stated previously, the final contract for the manufacture of the FSS ships will be awarded to a UK business, either solely or as part of a consortium. I would like to reiterate that a significant proportion of the build work will be carried out in the UK: the entire final assembly of the ship will take place in a UK shipyard and that FSS is an exciting opportunity for UK workers.

more like this
