The first tranche of 48 aircraft will be the F-35B; decisions on subsequent tranches of Lightning will be taken at the appropriate time. The most recent of these shows that, in the financial year 2017-18, 299 UK Armed Forces personnel had an initial assessment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at a Ministry of Defence (MOD) Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH). This represents 0.2% of the total Armed Forces population, or 2 in 1,000 personnel.

Neither the Ministry of Defence nor the Department of Health hold equivalent verified data on the number of former Service personnel who were diagnosed with a mental disorder (including PTSD) after leaving service. However, the Government is committed to ensuring that ex-Service personnel receive effective care and treatment through the NHS, and in his Budget on 29 October the Chancellor announced an additional £10 million to support veterans' mental health projects. The £10 million will be distributed to projects throughout the UK by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust under an open application programme to be called the Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.

The Type 45 Destroyers are hugely capable ships and have been deployed successfully on a range of operations worldwide. They continue to make an enormous contribution to the defence of the UK and our international partners. We want the first Type 31e Frigate in 2023, with five ships delivered by the end of 2028. The Type 31e will replace the fleet of General Purpose Type 23 Frigates. We have signed a £3.7 billion contract for the first batch of three Type 26 Frigates. All eight Type 26 Frigates will be built by BAE Systems on the Clyde, securing the future of shipbuilding in Scotland. These plans have not changed as a consequence of Brexit.
more like this

Scout is a fully digitised armoured vehicle which will deliver a step change in versatility and agility for the Army. The strategy made clear that it is not necessary to retain industrial capabilities in the UK in order to achieve appropriate operational sovereignty. The strategy was intended to make greater use of the global market, particularly within the EU and NATO. This remains the case for Scout Specialist Vehicle. General Dynamics United Kingdom was selected on the basis of the best value for money for the MOD and has decided to use the production facilities at General Dynamics European Land Systems in Spain. Neither of the final competition bidders planned to assemble the entire vehicle in the UK; both planned to make best use of their established international facilities and supply chains. Following production of the first 100 vehicles, an option does exist to transfer vehicle assembly to the UK subject to an economic case being accepted.
more like this

star this property answer text
This Government wants to continue to support veterans and to do more, which is why on 14 November 2018 we published the Strategy for our Veterans (Cm 9726) and supporting UK Government Consultation Paper (Cm 9727) that outlines what we aim to do and consults on how we will achieve it. The full documents can be found at the following link:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/strategy-for-our-veterans.

By 2028 we will be doing more to ensure that each veteran is valued, contributing and supported. One of our aims is that all veterans enjoy a state of positive physical and mental health and wellbeing, enabling them to contribute to wider aspects of society. In order to achieve this outcome, we will focus our efforts on enabling consistency of medical outcomes for veterans, through a smooth transition of provision from in-Service to post-Service and sharing effective practices amongst clinical and healthcare communities; providing bespoke treatment for those veterans who have bespoke needs because of their service, and targeting any identified health and wellbeing needs of veterans in comparison to the general population.

Veterans’ health is broadly aligned with that of the rest of the general population and most veterans’ health requirements are sufficiently met by existing NHS provision. However, several tailored initiatives are already in place to cater for specific veteran needs, including priority access to NHS secondary care in England, Scotland and Wales for Service related conditions, subject to the clinical need of all patients. Further work is also ongoing to increase awareness of the Armed Forces Covenant within the NHS, such as the Royal College of General Practitioners Accreditation programme (over 90 GP practices in the pilot area of the West Midlands) and Veterans Covenant Hospital Alliance, improved e-learning packages and the inclusion of the Covenant as part of the curriculum for all GPs nationally.

Friend, the Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans (Anna Soubry) on 15 October, she confirmed that the facilitation of payroll deduction for Credit Unions is technically possible and that our payroll provider is engaged with officials to scope and cost such deductions. Further work is underway to determine the criteria for access to this facility, and to develop an education campaign for our personnel so they may make informed choices.

Any payroll changes need to be delivered in one of the three releases per year of the intranet-based personnel administration system we use. Competition will help to ensure value for money and productivity. Companies can choose where they wish to undertake the work in the UK. The NSbS encouraged UK shipbuilders to make use of the support available to help innovation, including the High Value Manufacturing Catapults, Productivity Council Funding, and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

The NSbS Master Plan provides a 30-year forecast of Royal Naval shipbuilding requirements, providing industry with greater certainty about the Royal Navy's procurement plans so it has the confidence to invest for the long term in its people and its assets. This will allow industry to raise productivity, innovation and improve its competitiveness in the domestic and overseas markets.

The 30 Year Master Plan also allows the alignment of capability development and associated innovation with the plan in order to deliver the Maritime Strategy 2035 vision.
