star this property answer text <p>We are considering Sir John's recommendations on block-building, which he described as the virtual shipbuilding model, along with the other recommendations in his report.</p><p> </p><p>The Ministry of Defence has not prescribed a build strategy for the Fleet Solid Support ships and it will be for potential bidders to consider how the construction of the ships might be optimised.</p><p> </p><p>The National Shipbuilding Strategy is intended to lay the foundation for a modern and efficient sector capable of meeting the country's future defence and security needs. star this property answer text <p> </p><p>The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) continually monitors its manpower numbers and plans its recruitment and retention strategies accordingly. As part of that overall programme there are ongoing and specific RFA Recruitment Campaigns. The direct contribution from individual campaigns is not known, not least as interest may grow over time, but I understand that between January and June this year 18 joining offers have been made to individuals wishing to become engineering officers in the RFA.</p> more like this

I can confirm that the RFA continues to meet its operational commitments.</p><p> </p><p>With regard to RFA ships awaiting disposal, RFA ORANGELEAF will be withdrawn from service later this year, in accordance with the Navy Plan.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

A copy of my letter was placed in the Library of the House. As I mentioned in my letter the Ministry of Defence will provide a Written Ministerial Statement on an annual basis which confirms the readiness days for the Surface Fleet for the preceding year. It would therefore not be appropriate to give any updated figures at this time.</p><p> </p><p>The normal operating cycle of every ship involves them entering different readiness levels depending on their programmes, periods of refit and Departmental planning requirements. To avoid compromising operational security, the Ministry of Defence does not routinely disclose planned readiness profiles to avoid revealing elements of the Fleet's long-term schedule.</p> more like this
