It is inevitable that processing these can take a considerable time, for example while evidence is gathered from third party organisations and individuals.<br><br>In the case of the War Pension Scheme, there are no time limits for claiming, and claims for injuries dating back to World War Two are still being received. Assessing these claims involves locating 70 year old paper records, both Service and medical, and often requires a person to be medically examined so that a decision can be made based on up-to-date evidence. We attach much importance to dealing with all such claims as quickly as possible. However, the company has given the Ministry of Defence the understanding that the increased certainty from the MSDF contract will allow them to continue the recruitment of apprentices to meet the business needs of the Naval Base. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/10/2014 answer text <p>The Government believes that the country owes a particular debt of gratitude to those Service personnel who suffer life-changing injuries.<br><br>The Ministry of Defence therefore continues to improve the support that it offers to such personnel. In particular we now operate a Seriously Injured Leavers Protocol (SIL) which aims to ensure the identification of and ongoing support for, those Service leavers deemed likely to be medically discharged due to a severe physical or mental disablement.<br><br>This identification is based upon defined major disabling medical criteria, whilst the support is organised through the closer working of MOD in-Service and post Service welfare groups. The MOD’s Veterans Welfare Service proactively intervenes for 24 months and then maintains contact as required but at least yearly on the anniversary of discharge. The role of these posts is defined in DE&amp;S policy as having specified safety-related, decision-making responsibilities and accountabilities, and must be filled by people competent to make such decisions. Should a post become vacant, priority is given to recruitment action. Until the vacancy is filled, the post responsibilities are either transferred to other competent people or, to ensure safety, related activities cease. <br><br>Safety-Critical post data is reviewed on a monthly basis and as at 1 April 2014 there were 97 vacant Safety-Critical posts in DE&amp;S out of a total of 1,321. The figures for sexual assaults in this answer are different to those provided by the then Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans (Andrew Robathan) on 6 July 2012 (Official Report, column 822W) in response to a question from the hon. Member for Bridgend (Mrs Moon), for sexual assault referrals in the years between 2010 and 2012 (although 2012 was only for part of the year). This is because the term sexual assault has been expanded to cover the offences of indecent assault and sexual activity with a child. In addition, the figures provided in a response given by my predecessor (Mark Francois) on 30 November 2012 (Official Report, column 555W) again to the hon. Member for Bridgend (Mrs Moon) referred only to the number of cases where the victim was a member of the Armed Forces.
