	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/11/2014 answer text <table><tbody><tr><td colspan="2" rowspan="5"> </td><td colspan="6" rowspan="5"><p>As at 28 October 2014 there were around 155 UK military personnel serving in Gibraltar in Headquarters British Forces Gibraltar, the Royal Naval Gibraltar Squadron, and Windmill Hill Signal Station providing a range of enabling functions. A further 705 Ministry of Defence UK-based and locally employed civilian personnel provide support services to Defence operations, including 95 serving in the Gibraltar Defence Police. Additionally, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment comprises 226 full-time and 166 reserve personnel. The role of these assets collectively is to provide for the security and territorial integrity of Gibraltar and British Gibraltar Territorial Waters, and to enable the maintenance of Gibraltar as a forward mounting base for UK military operations. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/01/2019 answer text <p>There are 15 University Royal Naval Units (URNUs) based in the following locations: Birmingham; Bristol; Cambridge; Devon; Edinburgh; Glasgow and Strathclyde; Liverpool; London; Manchester and Salford; Northumbria; Oxford; Southampton; Sussex; Wales, and Yorkshire. Each Unit has an establishment of 51 students.</p><p> </p><p>The purpose of the URNUs is to instil an understanding of the Naval Service in students, both to facilitate a Naval career for those who chose one and so that those who go into civilian employment become positive advocates of the Naval Service. This has included the contribution of assets; and the provision of the Operational Headquarters and Operational Commander for the EU’s Operation ATALANTA; the NATO Maritime Commander and Maritime Headquarters that has overall command of Operation OCEAN SHIELD; and the Deputy Commander and supporting staff for the CMF. In addition, the Royal Navy maintains a constant presence, including at least one frigate or destroyer, in the Gulf region. Anti-piracy and anti-terrorism measures off the Horn of Africa, in the Gulf of Aden, and in the Arabian Gulf are among a number of concurrent tasks carried out by the Royal Navy and supporting assets, and expenditure incurred on these operations is not identified separately.
