star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence supports the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in combatting illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing through a support agreement between the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and the Royal Navy (RN), whereby naval assets conduct fishery protection activities. The RN and MMO work closely to maximise the effectiveness of these fishery protection activities within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the UK.</p><p> </p><p>RN and Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) vessels also conduct maritime security operations at all times while at sea, this includes monitoring and reporting maritime activity to relevant UK authorities. Reporting of fishing and other maritime activity to local UK authorities in Overseas Territories and the relevant authorities of other nations is routinely undertaken whenever a RN or RFA vessel is operating in the vicinity of UK Overseas Territories.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>It is our aim to publish the statutory instrument by the end of the year. As was made clear during the passage of the Armed Forces Act, this legislation will provide a statutory basis for the Veterans Advisory and Pensions Committee (VA&amp;PC) to provide advice and deal with complaints in relation to the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme 2005, and future compensation schemes enacted under the Armed Forces (Pensions and Compensation Scheme) Act 2004. Formal consultation about these provisions is not necessary. The Ministry of Defence will continue to work with the VA&amp;PC and will keep them updated.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We are aware of reports, including from Amnesty International on 6 June, of the alleged use of cluster munitions in the Saudi-led Coalition campaign in Yemen. The Government takes such allegations very seriously. We are analysing the case and seeking clarification from the Saudi-led Coalition.</p><p>We have raised this issue with the Saudi Arabian authorities and, in line with our obligations under the Convention on Cluster Munitions, we continue to encourage Saudi Arabia, as a non-party to the Convention, to accede to it. The UK last provided cluster munitions to Saudi Arabia nearly 30 years ago; the final delivery was in 1989.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Nuclear Warhead Capability Sustainment Programme (NWCSP) commenced following an announcement on 19 July 2005 (Official report col 59WS). The current Senior Responsible Owner is Dr Paul Hollinshead. The key stakeholders in the NWCSP are the Ministry of Defence and the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). Since 1 April 2008, financial planning for AWE has made no distinction between management and operation costs and those associated with the NWCSP. No scientists from the US national nuclear weapons laboratories are seconded to the programme, but a US engineer and serviceman are seconded. The information on how many AWE scientists have visited the US national nuclear weapons laboratories as part of the programme is not held centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.</p>
