I met with him during the United Nations General Assembly in September and with a range of government contacts when I visited the DRC in April. We made clear that we have zero tolerance for any human rights abuses or violations of international humanitarian law. The UK played a key role at the June 2018 Human Rights Council, which mandated the UN Joint Human Rights Office to document and profile human rights violations in DRC.
more like this

star this property answer text
We are deeply concerned by the ongoing ‎violence across Nigeria and the devastating impact it has had on affected communities. It is essential that both the Federal and State Governments in Nigeria address the drivers of conflict by working to develop solutions that meet the needs of all the communities affected. The UK and Nigeria have a security and defence partnership, signed during the Prime Minister's visit. We support the Nigerian authorities in improving security and in order to enable economic growth. The UK is also providing humanitarian and development aid to Nigeria, investing over £300 million over the next five years.
more like this

We have been in contact with Chief of Staff Abba Kyari and Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama to express our concerns about the levels of violence and numbers of people killed. We welcome commitments by the Government of Nigeria to conduct a thorough investigation and to take appropriate action to hold accountable any member of the security forces held responsible for violations of Nigerian law. It is essential that security forces act in accordance with international law and work to protect civilians. We continue to follow events closely, and encourage all parties to work together to enable the people of Nigeria to exercise freedom of expression and religious belief safely, peacefully and in line with the rule of law.
more like this

star this property answer text
Security in Somalia has seen important progress in recent years, but the country remains very fragile. As a priority, the Federal Government of Somalia must maintain momentum in developing and implementing a plan for transitioning security responsibility from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to Somali-led forces. They must also deliver widespread, sustainable reform of the security sector, in line with the commitments made at the 2017 London Somalia Conference. Coordinated international support to these efforts is vital, and the UK is playing a leading role.
more like this
