Both the United Kingdom and Ireland recently reaffirmed their commitment to ensure that the current high level of bilateral cooperation is maintained and strengthened following the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union. We will continue to use this level of cooperation to work on areas of collaboration and discuss topics where we may disagree. The Foreign Secretary has not discussed with his Irish counterpart the President's visit to Germany.
more like this

This latest incident highlights the desperation of these migrants and the urgent need to establish a more predictable voluntary relocation mechanism, as being discussed within the EU. An international response is required to effectively tackle irregular migration and to prevent any future occurrence of hijacking.
more like this

Our Embassy in Bishkek regularly meets with representatives from local civil society and international organisations and the government, including the State Commission for Religious Affairs, to better understand the challenges to the promotion of freedom of religion. We have also supported efforts to further the dialogue between the State Commission for Religious Affairs and religious groups in country.

We are involved in a number of initiatives which indirectly support religious freedom and education within Kyrgyzstan. Only this month, British Imam Qari Muhammad Asim attended an international conference on Islam, organised by the State Commission for Religious Affairs in Bishkek, which recognised the importance of freedom of religion and interfaith dialogue.

We will continue to raise our concerns about human rights directly with the Kyrgyz Government, and in the appropriate international fora, at every suitable opportunity.

The UK currently implements sanctions through the EU and has been at the forefront of EU sanctions on Russia, in response to Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea and destabilisation of Eastern Ukraine, since 2014. We welcome the fact that the EU's comprehensive package to tackle hybrid threats, endorsed at the June European Council, includes the creation of a new Chemical Weapons sanctions regime. We will continue to press for its speedy adoption. We will also push for new EU sanctions regimes against those responsible for cyber-attacks and gross human rights violations; as well as robustly enforcing the existing EU regime against Russia.
more like this

Our work on this agenda in Mexico focuses on the underlying causes.
