star this property answer text <p>The Withdrawal Agreement provides that reciprocal healthcare should continue until the end of the Implementation Period (until 31 December 2020) and provides longer-term rights for people covered by the Withdrawal Agreement.</p><p> </p><p>The United Kingdom Government remains focused on securing a broader agreement with the European Union on reciprocal healthcare rights as part of the UK’s future relationship with the EU. It has made clear in the White Paper of July 2018, ‘The Future Relationship Between The United Kingdom and the European Union’, that it is seeking agreement on reciprocal healthcare cover for state pensioners retiring to the EU or the UK, continued participation in the European Health Insurance Card scheme and cooperation on planned medical treatment.</p><p> </p><p>On Friday 26 October, the Government introduced The Healthcare (International Arrangements) Bill which will provide the Government with the powers that are needed to fund and effectively implement arrangements for UK nationals to obtain healthcare abroad after the UK exits the EU.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and NHS England are in dialogue with Vertex Pharmaceuticals around access to their portfolio of cystic fibrosis medicines. It is critical that Vertex now re-engages fully with the NICE appraisal process and gives serious consideration to the portfolio deal offer that NHS England made at the end of July. This deal would provide immediate access for patients to all Vertex licensed medicines and future pipeline products once licensed and in advance of the individual NICE appraisals concluding.</p> more like this

Outside of the NHS, information may also be obtained from Healthwatch, Citizen Advice, cancer and other charities.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The agreement we have reached with the European Union is that during the implementation period all reciprocal healthcare rights will continue and there will be no changes to healthcare for pensioners, workers, students, tourists and other visitors, the European Health Insurance Card scheme, or planned treatment. The Healthcare (International Arrangements) Bill will then allow us to implement a deal regarding our future healthcare relationship with the EU, including the Republic of Ireland.</p><p> </p><p>A deal remains in the best interests of the United Kingdom. However, as a responsible Government we are planning for all outcomes.</p><p> </p><p>In the event of a no-deal, the UK would like to enter into reciprocal agreements with individual EU Member States including with Ireland after the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise our unique relationship with Ireland and the importance of the Common Travel Area (CTA). The UK and Ireland are both committed to maintaining the current access to health care under the CTA after the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.</p><p> </p><p>Our focus is on securing the right outcome for the whole of the UK, including Northern Ireland.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Departments are currently working together to understand the impacts that withdrawal from the European Union will have across a number of sectors and cross-cutting areas, including the European Food Safety Authority. The European Food Safety Authority provides independent scientific advice and risk assessments covering a wide range of policy areas. Options for the future of risk assessment and scientific advice in the United Kingdom are being developed and assessed by the Government. Requirements will depend on the nature of the relationship the UK has with the European Food Safety Authority once the UK leaves the EU. It will be a priority to maintain the UK’s high standards of food and feed safety, and to ensure we take a risk-based, proportionate approach when providing risk assessments.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In 2016-17, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) invested £52.2 million into health research covered by the ‘Neurological conditions’ category of the UK Health Research Classification System. This £52.2 million was used to fund and support a range of research studies and research infrastructure for neurological conditions and within that, £4.58 million was spent specifically on Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and closely-related conditions.</p><p> </p><p>The NIHR provides the support, expertise and facilities that the NHS needs to undertake world-leading research funded by the NIHR, and other public, charity and life sciences industry partners, by funding a range of infrastructure facilities.</p><p> </p><p>The NIHR Clinical Research Network is currently supporting 19 non-commercial studies and clinical trials on MND and closely-related conditions which are open and recruiting participants. The non-commercial studies are listed in the table below. There are currently two commercial studies which are also recruiting participants.</p><p> </p><p>In 2016-17, the NIHR Research Infrastructure supported 23 studies and trials on MND and closely-related conditions in the NIHR Biomedical Research Centres, Units and other research infrastructure.
