This will give greater mental health support to an extra 345,000 children, at least 380,000 more adults and 24,000 more new and expectant mothers.</p><p>The interim NHS People Plan, published on 3 June 2019, sets out that an additional 25,000 staff will be employed in mental health services over the next five years. This includes nearly 6,500 more working in children and young people’s mental health services and mental health support teams in schools and colleges.</p><p> </p><p>The National Health Service will test new waiting times to ensure rapid access to mental health services in the community for those that need it and expand crisis care. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/07/2019 answer text <p>As a responsible Government, we have been planning for all eventualities and that includes managing the impacts of a ‘no deal’ European Union exit.</p><p>Following the publication of our world leading strategy <em>Childhood Obesity: a plan for action</em> in 2016 and <em>Childhood Obesity: a plan for action, Chapter 2,</em> significant progress has been made. Since the publication of the 2016 plan, half of all drinks in scope of the soft drinks industry levy are being reformulated, some products in the sugar production programme are exceeding their first year target, and significant investments are being made in schools to promote physical activity and healthy eating.</p><p>Consultations have been conducted on a number of policy areas from Chapter 2 and our responses to those will be set out later this year. However, as a responsible Government, we continue to plan and prepare for all eventualities, including a potential ‘no deal’ exit.</p><p>The Government is committed to the safe and effective regulation of medicines and medical devices in the United Kingdom. We will continue to strengthen safety while ensuring National Health Service patients and the public have fast access to new, innovative medicines.</p><p>The Government is providing short-term regulatory flexibility, in order to ensure that the UK can still import medicines from the European Economic Area (EEA), when the UK leaves the EU. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/07/2019 answer text <p><strong> </strong></p><p>The Government maintains that leaving the European Union with a deal is the best EU Exit outcome and has strongly expressed its opposition to leaving without a deal, in line with the position consistently expressed by Parliament. However, leaving without a deal on 31 October 2019 remains the legal default at the end of the Article 50 extension period if no withdrawal agreement is agreed. Therefore, as a responsible Government, we will continue to prepare to minimise any disruption to the supply of medicines and medical products in a ‘no deal’ scenario.</p><p> </p><p>The Department continues to work closely with the devolved administrations, relevant EU member states, industry trade bodies and suppliers, the National Health Service and our other main stakeholders to ensure that we are prepared for leaving the EU without a deal in October.</p><p> </p><p>On 26 June, we wrote to suppliers of medicines to the United Kingdom from or via the EU or European Economic Area setting out our continuing multi-layered approach to ensure the continuity of supply of all medicines and medical products in a potential no-deal exit scenario on 31 October.</p><p> </p><p>To ensure sufficient space to store stockpiled medicines, we agreed contracts for additional warehouse space, including ambient, refrigerated and controlled drug storage aligned to the possible 29 March EU exit date. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/07/2019 answer text <p>Health Education England (HEE)’s technology enhanced learning (TEL) Programme has developed a national framework for the delivery of simulation-based education. This framework is now in place and being applied across the country.</p><p>Part of this work has involved extensive stakeholder engagement and through this engagement, a number of examples of where virtual reality has successfully been used to support learning have emerged. In particular, HEE East of England is piloting facilitated virtual reality learning for 1,200 Foundation Programme trainee doctors in 20 critical emergency scenarios in the East of England. This enables real time practice in a safe simulated environment with both facilitated supervised training and also personal unlimited access. A careful evaluation will be carried out, looking at both the trainee experience of learning through virtual reality and their subsequent improvement in confidence in urgent care management.</p><p>In addition, the TEL Programme has supported the development of a virtual reality lab in Torbay, which is now in its second year. Successful examples of virtual reality in distraction therapy have emerged, particularly in paediatrics and podiatry, with clear benefits to patients undergoing the clinical intervention and costs savings because of the reduction in general anaesthetics.</p><p>The TEL Programme has now set up an academic partnership with Leeds Institute and through this partnership, will be developing a set of principles for the use of virtual reality in education and training. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/09/2019 answer text <p>The Government has committed to an extra 1,500 undergraduate medical school places - a 25% increase taking the total number of medical school training places in England to 7,500. The first 630 places were taken up in September 2018 with a further 690 places available in September 2019. The remaining additional 180 places will have been made available by universities by 2020/21. By 2020, five new medical schools will have opened in England to help deliver the expansion.</p><p>Following graduation from medical school, eligible applicants are allocated a place on the United Kingdom Foundation Programme.</p><p>The number of medical specialty training places that are available each year is set by Health Education England and based on their assessment of service gaps and predicted workforce needs.</p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan set out the need to ensure a sustainable overall balance between supply and demand across all staff groups. For doctors, it also focussed on reducing geographical and specialty imbalances. Subsequently, the interim NHS People Plan set out the action we will take now and over the long term to meet the challenges of supply, reform, culture and leadership, and changes in demand for health care.
