answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/03/2019 answer text <p>NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme offers screening to all eligible pregnant women in England to check the baby for 12 fetal anomalies which include Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndromes. Fetal anomalies are described as structural abnormalities of the developing fetus.</p><p> </p><p>The characteristics, causes and complications of Down’s Syndrome are described on NHS.UK and there is additional information on the support available to families expecting, or who have had a baby with Down’s Syndrome.</p><p> </p><p>Public Health England provides a Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme Handbook which offers practical guidance to support healthcare professionals in the operational delivery of the screening pathway. NHS England encourages clinical staff to refer to these sources of information when explaining Down’s Syndrome to families.</p><p> </p><p>NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme requires that there is equal access to uniform and quality-assured screening across England, and women are provided with high quality information so they can make an personal informed choice about their screening and pregnancy options. Long-term exposure to air pollution can cause chronic conditions such as cardiovascular, respiratory diseases and cancer, leading to reduced life expectancy.</p><p> </p><p>Air pollution has a particular impact on children as they grow. There is evidence that the process of normal lung function growth in children is suppressed by long-term exposure to air pollution.</p><p> </p><p>The effects of air pollution on children’s health are being studied in research projects. The EXHALE Programme is a London study on air pollution and children’s lung health. The Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants has started work to consider the evidence for the effects of air pollution on adverse birth outcomes. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/03/2018 answer text <p>The fit and proper person requirement requires all registered health and adult social care providers to make sure board directors, board members and individuals who perform the functions equivalent to the functions of a board director and member, are fit for their roles. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) assesses whether registered providers have appropriate processes in place for this. In this regard the CQC does not look at individuals, an approach which would extend to independent reviewers.</p><p> </p><p>The statutory duty of candour applies to organisations, rather than to individual members of staff. All regulated healthcare professionals working in the United Kingdom have an individual professional duty of candour, which is a responsibility to be open and honest. This responsibility is set out in their respective professional codes of conduct. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/01/2018 answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance Chronic kidney disease in adults: assessment and management, updated in July 2014, sets out best practice for clinicians in the diagnosis and management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The guidance covers identification and monitoring of patients at risk; pharmacological management and referral where appropriate, and aims to ensure patients remain healthy and avoid kidney failure, if possible. The guidance can be found at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><a href="http://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg182" target="_blank">www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg182</a></p><p> </p><p>The NHS Health Check is a national programme (launched in 2009) for everyone between the ages of 40-74 years (not already on a chronic disease register) that assesses people’s health and risk of developing certain health problems. At launch it was estimated that the programme could detect each year at least 20,000 cases of diabetes or kidney disease earlier, allowing individuals to be better managed and to improve their quality of life. The first major evaluation of the NHS Health Check, published in 2016 and covering 665 general practitioner practices, demonstrated positive results, estimating that over the first five years it has identified a new case of chronic kidney disease in every 265 appointments.
