star this property answer text <p>From the £5.8 billion the Department for Transport (DfT) announced in December 2014 to be allocated to local highway authorities in England for highways maintenance between 2015 and 2021, we have allocated £275 million between 2015 and 2017 for a local highways maintenance Challenge Fund for major maintenance projects. We announced on 24 March 2015 those schemes which would receive funding. star this property answer text <p>Accessible on-board information helps a wide range of passengers, including those who are visually impaired, to feel comfortable and confident when taking the bus.</p><p> </p><p>Traditionally however, systems providing automatic next stop announcements have proven expensive to fit and maintain, meaning that mandating their use would place a disproportionate financial burden on the bus industry.</p><p> </p><p>My Department has supported initiatives to develop innovative and low-cost approaches to providing such information, as well as providing Better Bus Area funding for local authority schemes to equip vehicles with audio/visual equipment.</p><p> </p><p>Many operators are already recognising the benefits of on-board information for all their customers, and I would encourage others to do the same.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government has made clear its intention to make this country a cycling nation. The Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy will be published in the summer and will include details of how the £300m committed in the last Spending Review will be invested to support cycling and walking.</p><p> </p><p>In addition to the dedicated cycling and walking programmes, there are a number of wider funding streams which are devolved to local bodies and which can and are being used to support cycling and walking projects. In particular, billions are available to Local Enterprise Partnerships and local authorities through the Local Growth Fund and Integrated Transport Block allocations.</p><p> </p><p>In addition to the above, a record £6.1 billion has been allocated to local highways authorities between 2015 and 2021 for road maintenance, and this funding can help maintain footways and cycleways.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this
