star this property answer text <p>The Sheffield to Manchester corridor has recently seen an improvement which means that since 2018 there is an hourly Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly service every day and two weekday trains per hour from New Mills Central to Manchester Piccadilly via Bredbury – one of these trains is a Hope Valley Sheffield service. We will be working with industry parties to deliver further improvements with the planned split of the Liverpool to Norwich East Midlands Railway service into a self-contained Liverpool to Nottingham service in 2021 and when the Hope Valley capacity improvement scheme is delivered thereafter.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Network Rail have completed the single option design for the railway infrastructure scheme proposed in the Hope Valley and are working on plans to progress the work to the next stage ‘Decision to Deliver’. Network Rail have developed a procurement plan to deliver the scheme, and <em>expect to contact potential </em>suppliers shortly<em>.</em> They will be working with the train operators to assess the best way to deliver this scheme during control period 6 (2019-2024) with the least disruption to passengers.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The first Road Investment Strategy committed to an investment package worth over £170 million for existing Sheffield-Manchester connections to address safety and congestion issues, and improve journey times. Highways England has announced a preferred route which covers the:</p><ul><li><p>Mottram Moor link road;</p></li><li><p>A57(T) to A57 link road;</p></li><li><p>A616/A61(T) Westwood roundabout; and,</p></li><li><p>Safety and technology improvements along the route.</p></li></ul><p>The Department for Transport, in conjunction with Highways England and Transport for the North, is undertaking a study looking at the long term strategic road connection requirements to link the areas of Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire to transform journeys and enhance connectivity across the southern Pennines. This includes consideration of a trans-Pennine tunnel. The study is expected to report in spring 2020.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Our absolute priority is ensuring passengers in the north benefit from new trains, more services and increased capacity as quickly as possible.</p><p>Northern retired the first of its 102 Pacers in August and it plans to remove two thirds by December 2019. Northern advises that, subject to receiving appropriate dispensation, up to 34 (11 Class 142 and 23 Class 144) Pacers will remain in the fleet for a short time into 2020 to cover the delay in delivery of new trains into the franchise. If these trains were not allowed to continue in the fleet, then a large number of services would need to be cancelled and causing disruption for passengers across the North. Northern’s current plan is to remove all 142s by February 17, 2020 and to remove 144s by May 17, 2020.</p><p> </p><p>The Pacers will operate mainly in South Yorkshire including Sheffield to Gainsborough Central, Huddersfield and Doncaster as well as areas of West Yorkshire and Manchester.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Every train operator is required to set out how they will support disabled passengers and persons of reduced mobility in an Accessible Transport Policy (ATP). The Accessible Travel Policy, previously known as the Disabled People’s Protection Policy sets out the level of services and facilities that disabled passengers can expect how to get staff assistance. Every train and station operator is required to have in place an ATP as a condition of holding a passenger operator’s licence granted by the Office of Rail and Road. This includes offering ‘Passenger Assist’ to board or alight any vehicle and how to get assistance whilst on board.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Northern’s Franchise Agreement stipulates that Pacers and other older types of trains cannot be removed until they can be replaced by another train into passenger service. This is to protect the stability of the rail timetable. Unfortunately, manufacturing delays with the new fleet have meant a small number of pacers will remain in service into 2020.</p><p> </p><p>We will work alongside Northern to progress all options to remove Pacers as soon as possible however our top priority is to ensure a stable service for passengers.</p><p> </p> more like this
