	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/03/2019 answer text <p>The UK has a multi-year commitment to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and we plan to continue to fund the Agency in line with that agreement. This will provide basic services such as health and education to Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank and the region. Both the UK and UNRWA recognise the need for UNRWA to reform to ensure its sustainability, and UNRWA has undertaken significant cost-cutting measures to respond to budget cuts and growing need. We welcome UNRWA’s efforts to broaden its donor base and are encouraging partners to step up with more funding and more predictable disbursements. A long term solution requires a just, fair, agreed and realistic settlement for Palestinian refugees. Over the course of the 2017/18 financial year, the UK provided around £50 million to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), assisting in their provision of essential services including basic education to around 500,000 children, health services for around 3 million Palestinian refugees and supporting Palestinian refugees from Syria. The UK will deliver its next round of financial support earlier than originally planned, to help meet the growing needs of Palestinian refugees across the region. This data is published each year in the Statistics on International Development (SID) publication. In this case, bilateral ODA through multilateral refers UK contributions to UNRWA’s Emergency Appeals. However, the Assad regime is besieging the area, preventing the delivery of new supplies. We helped launch UNICEF’s No Lost Generation Initiative, which provides education, protection, and mental health support for children affected by the Syria crisis. At the 2016 London Syria conference, we pushed for a shift to more multi-year financing to enable better long-term planning, and helped secure pledges of $6.1 billion. DFID will provide support for the democratic process through our governance and economic reform programme, which has been specifically designed to respond to opportunities as they arise in Sudan. This could take the form of providing support to a range of civilian and civil society organisations to support their participation in the transition process.
