DFID Pakistan officials hold regular meetings with the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board on progress to redesign textbooks to improve their quality and make them more inclusive. It remains the responsibility of the Punjab Textbook Board to approve the redesigned books and to fund their printing and distribution.</p> more like this

We are concerned by the substantial increase in serious clashes between farmers and cattle herders in recent months. unstar this property answer text <p>Under the current Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC) rules the three hurricane affected Overseas Territories, Anguilla, the Turks and Caicos Islands and the British Virgin Islands, are not eligible to receive Official Development Assistance (ODA) due to their Gross National Income (GNI) per capita being above the ODA eligibility cut off point. The United Kingdom (UK) Government has committed £142 million of non-ODA funding to the hurricane relief effort in the Overseas Territories. In addition up to £300 million of loan guarantees will be available to help the affected Overseas Territories access the funds needed to Build Back Better. ODA rules have not and will not stop Britain dedicating the money needed for the hurricane recovery and reconstruction the Overseas Territories.</p> more like this

We continue to consider how the UK can best lend support to the youth of South Sudan, including the Forum, to contribute to long term peace and stability.</p><p>More widely, we have consistently called for the inclusion of a broad range of civil society actors in the High Level Revitalisation Forum (HLRF), including representatives of South Sudanese youth groups. We welcomed the involvement of South Sudanese civil society groups in the first round of the HLRF in December, and encourage their continued inclusion as the process progresses.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>UK funding in South Sudan is currently fully committed to 2020; this includes a four year programme (2016-2020) with International Medical Corps that includes a significant element for gender based violence (GBV) prevention and protection in South Sudan, and support to the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM) in order to improve reporting on gender based violence. All programmes are subject to regular assessments of performance. We have exceeded our annual target this year and have reached just under 300,000 women, girls, men, and boys with GBV interventions.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Through our programmes in Pakistan we are supporting women and girls to live healthy and secure lives. This includes supporting girls through education, improving maternal health and providing economic opportunities though access to micro-finance and skills training. We are also supporting the rollout and implementation of new legislation to protect women and strengthen their rights, and increasing women’s involvement in decision making at all levels.</p><p> </p><p>Activities to tackle inequality and promote empowerment are embedded across all our bilateral programmes in Bangladesh. As well as providing direct support in areas like education, health, livelihoods and nutrition, we support programmes designed to tackle social norms that result in gender-based violence and early marriage, including working with men and boys, and programmes that ensure access to security and justice.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The amount of UK Official Development Assistance (ODA) funds to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in 2015 and 2016 is given in the table below. This data is published each year in the Statistics on International Development (SID) publication. Figures for 2017 will be released next year.</p><p>The UK is unequivocally committed to supporting Palestinian refugees across the region. In this case, bilateral ODA through multilateral refers UK contributions to UNRWA’s Emergency Appeals. Core multilateral ODA describes un-earmarked funds from the UK which are pooled with other donors’ funding and disbursed as part of the core budget of the multilateral organisation, which is UNRWA’s Programme Budget in this case.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The UN’s September Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report shows that South Sudanese people are experiencing food insecurity at unprecedented levels. A massive aid effort, which included £100 million provided by the Department for International Development, alleviated the famine declared in February this year. However, 6 million people, or 56% of the population, are now estimated to be severely food insecure, and 1.2 million are on the brink of famine.</p><p>The UK is at the forefront of the international response to the crisis. Through the Humanitarian and Resilience Building in South Sudan programme, the Department for International Development will provide £443 million in humanitarian aid between 2015 and 2020 to support the provision of food, emergency shelter, and nutrition and health services, including our response to famine and severe food insecurity.</p> more like this
