star this property answer text <p>At the Safeguarding Summit on 5 March, I announced that DFID will put in place new, enhanced and specific safeguarding standards within our due diligence process for all non-governmental organisations. This will include an assessment of codes of conduct, how organisations identify and respond to incidents, and how risk management places safeguarding and beneficiaries at its core. New funds to organisations will not be approved unless they pass the new standards.</p> more like this

We have recently written to all of our partners to remind them of their responsibility to provide their own mechanisms for reporting and investigating suspicions and/or allegations of sexual violence. Wherever these relate to a DFID programme we also expect that our partners report those to us in a timely manner. DFID’s specialist team will then provide oversight of the investigatory response to ensure it meets our standards, providing dedicated support as required.</p><p> </p><p>We urge all survivors of sexual violence in South Sudan, including aid workers, to report the harm committed against them.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The ICAI Rapid Review of the Prosperity Fund acknowledged the significant progress made to date and the recommendations on areas for improvement were constructive. Work has continued since early 2017 to respond to the ICAI recommendations and to build a strategic portfolio that matches UK government priorities.</p><p>The Prosperity Fund published an Annual Report and financial data for 2016/17, and will continue to publish information, working to meet the government commitment of ‘good’ on the Aid Transparency Index by 2020.</p><p>All Prosperity Fund Official Development Assistance spend will comply with the International Development Act, and with the Gender Equality (2014) and the Official Development Assistance Target (2015).</p> more like this

This has been reiterated across government at all levels, including Ministerial, and the importance of positive engagement is emphasised in guidance to UK ODA spending departments. In addition, the Prosperity Fund is overseen by a Ministerial Board which meets regularly, with Lord Bates representing DFID. One of the Principles is commitment to human rights, which includes freedom of religion or belief. Evidence of lack of commitment to the Principles would influence choices on the level and the manner of aid provision, for example by providing aid through civil society organisations rather than through government bodies.</p><p> </p><p>DFID contractual and grant arrangements used for organisations other than governments include specific clauses to prevent any discrimination against protected characteristics, including religion or belief.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Although famine has not been formally declared in 2018, South Sudan continues to experience record levels of food insecurity as a result of the ongoing conflict. 5.3 million people, nearly half the population, are estimated to be severely food insecure - a 40% increase from the same time last year. 1 million people are on the edge of famine.</p><p>To tackle food insecurity and prevent famine, UK Aid is working with partners like the World Food Programme (WFP) and the UN Humanitarian Air Service to get food and nutrition supplies to key locations across the country – by truck, helicopter or barge. With support from the UK and other international donors, so far this year WFP has reached almost 1.6 million people with a total of 18,000 metric tonnes of food. They are also continuing to preposition stocks at key locations across the country in anticipation of future need.</p> more like this
